If there are others I have not seen them mentioned on this list. Tom, With our all-volunteer organization there are two questions to ask: What activities are you interested in and what are you willing to do to make them happen? There is a great bunch of talented Yak drivers in your region that are willing to work with you but it is up to you to network with these guys and get something going. My experience has been that Yak drivers are always looking for an excuse to go flying and if nothing presents itself they will make up an excuse. A new guy formation clinic can be as simple as two students, two Instructors and two airplanes. I suggest you start by contacting Dave King: _KingCJ6@aol.com_ (mailto:KingCJ6@aol.com) Regards, Mike Filucci ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 06:33:17 AM PST US From: "Ernie" Subject: Re: Yak-List: Yak-18T --> Yak-List message posted by: "Ernie" Hey Roma, Getting bored with the 39's and getting into something with a little more vibration??? This one is to send out to some airshow organizer folks I know, shamelessly promoting our aircraft and mass formation skills for use in their events. For compensation of course! To this end, I need a few "centerfold" pics of a Yak-52, -TW, and CJ that have "airshow quality" paint...as opposed to REAL military paint like mine. The background should be uncluttered as I'll be pasting into a white slide format. Prior to release, I'll share this with some knowlegeable people for sanity checking, effectiveness, etc. After that I'll make it available to RPA members. My experience in dealing with the Chinese on the new airframe I purchased (through Doug) from the factory has been less than good. They make an agreement with you, expect your money in advance, and then ship whatever they please with no follow up and no facility for remedy of problems. In my case, I had ordered - and they agreed to ship - a new airframe with no engine, radios, paint or primer. What I received was a generally new airframe, no engine, a wired in ADF (38 pounds) and Chinese primer - that is incompatible with our paint - sloshed over everything! We have had to completely disassemble and strip everything, and in the process found that a number of "new" parts were "Chinese new" meaning that previously used parts that had been IRANed were put back onto the fuselage (landing gear, for example). The quality of workmanship in several areas was so inferior that we had to redo it, and the Plexiglas also had to be replaced. I have mentioned these problems to Fan and always get a faint smile and nothing else. As for mods, the airframe I received was - so far as I can tell - identical to every CJ manufactured since 1968. There were no improvements. The mods I see in their adds are primarily mods that Fred Illenberg or Doug devised. When I have asked Fan about this her response was to look at me quizzically and to remind me that since someone had already come up with an idea it now belonged to everyone and why would they not use it? Crash course in the difference between our two economic and property systems. With the additional investment of four years of "restoring" a brand new airframe I will have an outstanding airplane, and with over a thousand hours in them I do love the CJ. However, it is inconceivable to me that the Chinese will ever be able to build a new Experimental CJ to the quality standards - or product design responsiveness - that we have seen in the Yak 52TW. Given that I don't see a substantial enough market to warrant new manufacture experimental CJs , I really don't see them doing a certificated version. And, since they have never bothered to ask us in the past what we needed or would like in support of the current fleet, why would I think they are serious about our input on a new certificated version? Doug and others have told them repeatedly about our parts needs, and yet they still have to fight like hell to find parts for us. (I'm wondering if they have read too many Bonanza policies?) I don't think I'll send the questionnaire.
