YAKSTERS,
Went flying today and right gear didn't come up on CJ-6. Left gear and nose
gear came up normally and right gear didn't move as I still had green lite on
right gear. Seemed to be air bypassing as I had atomized oil by gear handle.
Put gear handle to neutral (off) for a few seconds and then back to up and then
Rt.gear went up. Flew for about 30 min. and gear came down normally. This
happened once before. Any ideas what needs to be done to fix this problem?

Ron,
Most likely your emergency shuttle valve on the right gear actuator moved out
of the normal down position momentarily. It may just need cleaning. Or it
could be the "O" rings on the actuator piston 'rolled' and allowed air to
passed out the up lines back to the gear handle (valve vent) in the cockpit. Both
are easy fixes.

Crack you emergency line in the wheel well Ron, I think you've got some air
in the line that is fighting against the main system. Then check to make
sure the emerg valve in both cockpits are tightly closed. I bumped mine one
(unaware) climbing in and out of the cockpit, and allowed some air into the
emerg system and had the same problem.

Subject: | Blade Angle Alignment Procedure, V530 Prop |

YAKSTERS
Used Dennis Savares' method of prop alignment. (
http://home.earthlink.net/~yak52driver/balance.html article is near the
bottom of the page)
Be aware it's a real bear to get the angles down to .1 degree of each
other. I recommend getting the SMART TOOL (
http://www.speedpartz.com/smarttool.htm )if you are going to do it.
Since there were so many iterations to get it right, it was simpler to
level the aircraft in reference to the front, flat face of the prop hub
to eliminate the Angle of Incidence (AI) calculations.
It's interesting to note that after the adjustments the original
alignment marks were within 1/2 of a tick mark between the two blades.
Not entirely sure but I think each tick mark is equal to one degree.
Anyone know for sure?
On another note, as regards that new Simple Green degreaser product. An
old, grouchy mechanic I know uses an insecticide sprayer (the kind you
can pump-up and pressurize) to degrease his engines. He got tired of
paying the high price for engine degreaser so now he uses diesel fuel to
do the same thing.
I asked him about the hazards of doing that so he lit a cigarette and
snuffed it out in a cup of diesel and then proceeded to do the same with
a lit match. Can't say I recommend the method but it did the trick for
him. To each his own or your mileage may vary..........

Yes, Walt, it is 14.5 degree at 1 meter from the center of the hub.
Assuming the blades are of equal length, you can measure 8" in from the tip,
scribe a line on the back side of the blade and measure the angle. Don't
forget about the static angle of attack. You should measure that on the
front flat surface of the hub behind the spinner dome. If you go to my web
site on the Downloads page, there is a fairly good write up on setting the
blade angles.

Ron;
Sounds like you have a partially pressurized emergency system. Possibly one
of the emerg. valves is leaking (or accidentally opened as already
suggested) or, and more likely, there is a leak in the emerg. line check
valve on the LH firewall. This is one of the pair of check valves not
associated with the relief valve. They allow one way flow into the system
from either the main or emerg. supply. If the emerg. side is leaking main
system air will enter the emerg. side and pressurize the gear down.
If that is the problem it will probably be due to a corroded spring and a
gummed up valve poppet.
Good luck;
Walt
