YAKSTERS
If any of you have done that mod to your carb where one of the jets are
blocked off then you know you were warned not to do it if you live in a
cold climate. Well, it's been pretty cold here in the high desert in the
mornings so I've had problems keeping the engine running when it's cold.
Here's a trick I discovered to keep it running when it's cold.
Turn the primer handle to the right for a moment before it starts to
die. Keeps it running despite the cold. Of course she'll run just fine
once she warms up.

I had a situation last year where the gear worked fine in retraction tests on the
ground, but in flight the nose gear would not retract and air would exhaust
from the gear valve.
Problem was a leaking piston seal on the nose gear actuator,
with the air load in flight the leakage in the seal by-passed enough air through
the gear valve so that the pressure could not build up enough to overcome the
over center position of the nose gear struts against the in- flight air load.
Because the nose gear actuator piston is in the lowest point when extended, any
moisture can settle in that area while the aircraft is parked. I found some minor
corrosion which I believe caused the seal damage.
Cleaning up the corrosion and new seals solved the problem.
Lesson: Any air exhausting from the valve after extend or retract cycles are complete
indicate a failure of a piston seal.

Yaksters, the YAK 52TD has been test flown and independently reported by
Pilot magazine in the UK. The writer did not take on board my corrections,
hence saying it has a Cessna 180 tail wheel and the oil cooler moved to
behind the wheel !!
The report is at http://www.yakuk.com/YAK52TD-pilot.asp approx 800 kbs worth
of files.
Best regards, fly safe-Mark Jefferies

A very fast web site that has video of the Red Bull Aerobatic Race. You might
need a five point harness on your computer desk chair to watch.

Hi Matt,
I tried to get off the Matronics list and no longer get the mass of mail. I just
had an oppertunity to check my mail and it is jammed up with that mail still.
Can you help me?
Regards, Dee (deegrimm@cox.net)
