Now you why he thinks he's so fast. Speed or "Speed"?

I am a new owner of a Yak 52. Is it normal to only be able to generate 86%
power with the prop full forward with the aircraft sitting still with the
breaks on??
I have heard several different answers to this. What's up?

Pete;
By full forward do you mean the prop pitch control lever is set full
forward or do you have the prop pitch set full forward? In other words,
is the prop pitch lever full forward or full back when you give it full
throttle?
During idle, the prop lever should be set to full forward, you then
throttle forward until RPM reads 70%. At that point, check your mags and
then move the prop control full back. You should then see an RPM drop to
around 52%. After this check, move the prop control to full forward and
RPM should go back to 70%. If your plane works as I just described then
you don't have a problem.
