--> Yak-List message posted by: "A. Dennis Savarese" <adsavar@gte.net> Hi Pete, We discussed this yesterday. As I said, I seriously doubt the prop blades have been properly set. In fact, I would probably bet you a $100 bill based on the fact that you told me a mechanic had set them. See attached from the DOWNLOADS page on my web site, www.yak-52.com. I contacted Rich Hess yesterday after we spoke. He's the flight instructor I mentioned. Expect a telephone call from him if he hasn't called you already. I'll be in my office this morning until around 10-10:30 central time if you want to call and try and schedule the maintenance training class. Otherwise, email a telephone number and I'll call you this evening and synchronize. Best wishes, A. --> Yak-List message posted by: "A. Dennis Savarese" <adsavar@gte.net> Ernie, I discussed this problem on the phone with Pete yesterday. He is about 450' above sea level. I told him to look at his MP gauge while the aircraft is shut down. It should read somewhere around 750-770 mmHg as standard atmospheric pressure on a standard day is 29.92" at sea level or 760 mm. Pete said he was only getting around 600 mm with the throttle wide open and the prop full forward. Pete also told me some mechanic had "adjusted" the prop blades. Bad news if he was not familiar with the V530 prop hub or the specs of 14.5 degrees at 1 meter from the center of the hub or 8" in from the tip. The aircraft's resting angle of incidence must also be included in the calculations. Based on the numerous incorrectly set blade angles causing the same type of problem that I have seen, I would guess the blades are probably incorrectly set. I emailed him a copy of the procedure on how to properly check/set the blade angles, which is on my web site on the Downloads page. Subject: Yak 50 gear fail
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Mark Jefferies" <mark.j@yakuk.com> Last week a YAK 50 had gear seal failure and the emg did not manage to push the gear down either (seals dont have backups!!) so the owner elected to land on Grass, the oil scoop dug in wiped it clean off, rolled the cooler along between a/c and ground punching 3 holes in the fuse, totally f%$ * the a/c, it wont be far of insurance write of. Jez did the same and that was similar damage. So, if you have to do a gear up or a single leg landing do it on a hard runways, as Jim (titan) demonstrated and others the oil cooler cover is strong enough to support the a/c it just gets filed down a little, repairs are quick and easy. With a single gear leg down the prop does not even touch the ground and a little wing tip gets filed away, again a simple fix again. Hope the above is helpful if your unfortunate to be in these circumstances. Best regards, fly safe-Mark Jefferies For YAK UK Ltd www.yakuk.com Lt Gransden Airfield Sandy, Beds SG19 3BP England.
