Subject: [PLEASE READ] - Why Do I Have A Fund Raiser Each Year?
--> Yak-List message posted by: Matt Dralle <dralle@matronics.com> Dear Listers, I was thinking that perhaps I should explain why I have a Fund Raiser and also take the opportunity to express why I think the List Services here provide a far better experience than the commercial equivalents. I use the List Fund Raiser each year to offset the costs involved with running a high performance email list site such as this one. With the annual support from the List members through the PBS-like Fund Raiser, I have found I can run the entire site without having to inflect any of the members with those annoying banner ads flashing up all the time trying to sell Toner Cartridge Refills or other garbage nobody wants or needs. From the comments I've received over the years regarding the Lists, the great majority of the members really appreciate the non-commercialism of my List systems and don't mind my 'go-team-go' banter once a year to encourage members to support the Lists. I believe that the Lists services that I provide here offer a great many benefits over the commercial equivalents in a number of ways. The first feature I believe to be particularly significant is that you *cannot* receive a computer v*rus from any of my Lists directly. I've been on a few other List servers and have been unfortunate enough to download infected files people have innocently or not-so-innocently included with their posts. This just can't happen with my Lists; each incoming message is filtered and attachments stripped off prior to posting. I provide a Photo and File Share feature that allows members to share files and bitmaps with other members and everyone can be assured that these files will be prescanned for any sort of v*rus before they are posted. Safe and simple. Also, with this photo and file sharing technique, the Archives don't get loaded up with a huge amounts of bitmap "data" that slows the Archive Search times. Another feature of this system is the extensive List Archives that are available for download, browsing, and searching. The Archives go all the way back to the very beginning of each List and with the super fast Search Engine, the huge size of the Archives is a non-issue in quickly finding the data you're looking for. Another feature of the Archives, in my opinion, is that they have been primarily stripped of all the useless email header garbage that seems to build up in a typical email thread. I have received an extremely positive response from Listers regarding the List Browse feature and the consensus is that the format and ease of use is outstanding. Members report that having the previous 7 days worth of messages on line for easy browsing and sorting is hugely beneficial. And again, as with the real time distribution of List email, the messages are stripped of all the unnecessary email headers and potentially dangerous v*ruses. I've been running email Lists and services under the matronics.com domain since about 1989 starting with RV-List and 30 guys who I knew and who where also building RVs. It has grown into well over 50 different aviation-related Email Lists and an associated web site that receives over 13,000,000 hits each year!! Additionally, the List email system forwards well over 32,000,000 (yes, that's 32 MILLION) email messages to subscribers each year! With all the dot.bombs these days, I think there's a lot of value in supporting a service that has gone the long haul and is still providing and improving a high quality service at a price that's nearly free. I have to admit running these Lists is a labor of love and I hope it shows in the quality of the experience that you receive when you get a List Email Message, Search the Archives, or use the List Browser. The Lists will be here for a long time to come. If you just want to lurk a while for free, that's great and I encourage you to do so. If you use, appreciate, and receive value from these Lists, then please support them during the Annual List Fund Raiser! The SSL Secure Contribution Web Site: http://www.matronics.com/contribution Thank you, Matt Dralle Email List Administrator Matt G Dralle | Matronics | PO Box 347 | Livermore | CA | 94551 925-606-1001 V | 925-606-6281 F | dralle@matronics.com Email http://www.matronics.com/ WWW | Featuring Products For Aircraft do not archive

    From: "Charlie Lynch" <lynch@netjets.com>
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Charlie Lynch" <lynch@netjets.com> Kimble's Aviation is hosting a mini-formation clinic for L-39's this weekend at their facility in Georgetown, DE. We do have several Yak-52's / CJ-6A's showing up for some flying as well. This is an informal gathering unlike the last two organized events they have hosted. With the Comfort Inn nearby and a restaurant on the field, it might be a fun opportunity for people in the NY, NJ, VA, MD area to get together for some fun flying. Kimble's does have some rooms held aside under the RedStar Pilot's Assoc name at the hotel for $59 a night. The hotel's phone number is (302) 854-9400. Flying will start on Friday and conclude on Sunday. Please give me a call if you have any questions. Charlie Mr. Charles R. You might pass this along to others so they can register as do not call. The website is www.donotcall.gov. tc

--> Yak-List message posted by: Don Boardman <dboardm3@twcny.rr.com> >Don - how long have you had this installation on your M-14? >Deon. Hi Deon, The oil valve has been installed about a year. The scavange system lines are installed with the location of the dual ball valves and the reservoir tank and return pump roughed in. Final installation within a couple of months. I read your question, though, how long have you been flying with the installation. As I indicated in my original post the Murphy Moose is not flying yet. "Shortly to be completed" We still have a few months of work to do and sadly I have not yet heard the sweet sound of a fired up M-14. Engine installation is 95%. The issues at this point are the fabrication of an air box and then the final plumbing of the scavange system. The final airbox design will determine the exact placement of the dual ball valves. Hi Lieven, >I would like to know if fitting of the Kimball oil shut off valve is an easy >task. The valve is attached to the outlet in the bottom of my oil tank (not a Yak tank) using a female-female AN12 coupling. Both the outlet on my oil tank and the inlet to the oil valve are male AN12. >Is it the original metric thread? Both ends of the oil valve are male AN12 ... not metric. --> Yak-List message posted by: SMcge528@aol.com Hello from the long-lost Jacksonville, FL CJ contingent. The three off us have not seen Jax or our 2 CJs much since Bartow/Sun-n-Fun '02, but we're back and looking forward to "joining up" with you guys again soon. Now that nearly all of our genuine, original Chinese paint has chipped away we are headed to the paint shop. Hoping some of you in the Southeast might have some Warbird paint shop recommendations...and maybe some to steer clear off. Also appreciate any other tips including a realty check on the cost for a typical two-tone paint job with all the markings. Dirty Birds no more. Thanks for the info!! Shawn McGehee

--> Yak-List message posted by: "Terry Calloway" <tcalloway@datatechnique.com> Hello Shawn, I had my CJ painted a year ago next month at Woodlake Refinishing. They did and excellent job including having it done when they said it would be done and meeting the price that they quoted. Several on this list have seen the paint and commented well on it's quality. One recommendation I tried and found it to work out really well is, instead of having all the intricate artwork details painted on, I instead had the major colors painted and then had a sign company do vinyl for the rest. It turned out great and saved $'s in painting. This it the route I took and it worked great. Subject: Still in love
--> Yak-List message posted by: Barry Hancock <barry@flyredstar.org> Well, my flying life has been pretty good lately. Last week I finished up my checkout in a T-28 (Walt Fricke's) and tomorrow I finish my training in the L-39. Today I went out to the airport after work and pulled the old CJ out of the hanger to give her some exercise. She's been feeling a little neglected the last few weeks because I've only put a few hours on her. From April to November I logged over 130 hours. Just got her out of the interior shop where I had diamond stitch padding and carpet put in the floor...really cleans things up and should add a touch of sound and temperature insulation as well. Anyway, it was a quick flight, returned with an overhead at 1300 AGL (tower requested), 60 degrees, 3 G's, power to 300 potatoes, gear out rolling through downwind to crosswind abeam the numbers, flaps down, continuing the turn to the numbers, 160 km/h, completed the 360 about 10' above the ground, wings level, power to idle. touch down on the numbers (a greaser! :) ) and hold her nose off 'til the elevator can't hold it any more. As I'm taxiing in I think about just how comfortable I feel in CJ's now with just over 500 hours in 'em, and how much I just absolutely love the airplane. No, it doesn't have the cool factor of 1400+ rumbling horsepower or the wow factor of 320 knot cruise speed, etc. But for all around bang for the buck, you simply cannot beat a CJ/Yak. Next week I'll start flying a Yak-50 and might even get a MiG-29 ride by the end of the year. Pinch me, I think I'm dreaming..... Barry

    Subject: OSH/MTW
--> Yak-List message posted by: cjpilot710@aol.com TROOPS, Plans are already starting to form for OSH/MTW. The part that I am somewhat concern with is a tent. As most of you know we now have our own space in the WB area and we have to use it or lose it. The first year we got to use Walt Fricky's BIG RV. This year I propose that we use a military style tent and have our banners and such on the out side. Inside we can stash a couple of coolers full of water/cola, and maybe put up a simple bulletin board for our show briefing. We can get as elaborate as we wish as far as EAAWB is concern, but I think we should keep it simple (cheap). It would be nice if we had a real east block or Chinese military tent. Does any one have an idea where we might find something like that? The next alternative may be a standard US Army GP or even rent a 12x12 commercial tent. We have to show our presents. BTW I received a bit of info from EAAWB that with the exception of one day (forums day) there will be a warbird show every day. The exact details are still very much up in the air (pardon the pun). Also formation arrivals will under go some changes this year. Details are still being worked out on that and may effect our ops out of MTW. Jim "Pappy" Goolsby BTW I have the wings back on my airplane (new long bladder tanks) and the new EFIS (Blue Mountain Sport) system in. I've detailed out the front cockpit, put a C/B panel where the wobble pump handle was, added an electric fuel pump, activated my gun (yes it fires from a button on the stick), and set my front panel up for a ILS, Fuel Flow, and auto pilot. Right now, I'm doing "smoke test" on the wiring system and will run the setup program on the EFIS. After that its fill and test the new fuel tanks, than calibrate the new fuel tank sensors. Hope fully I'll be flying by the end of next week. WWS.
