And when I had my hot-rod in high school I was paying
$0.30/gallon for
premium gas. A couple of years back I was paying $0.99/gal for
regular
gasoline I was burning in my CJ6A. Now I wish I could run my car
on
Rum. It is almost cheaper that gasoline now.
Geezzz guys!!
Consider yourself lucky indeed!
Over here in Holland we pay up to =80 2.00, per liter avgas!! that is
appr.$6.00, per USG!!!!!
And we even have to pay landing fees on small grass strips, not often
seen in the US of A
BUUTTTT: alt least our POT is really cheap and legal!!(and so is
drinking a beer outside the pub-terras)
BTW,Mogas is 'only' =801,25 for 95 octane;lucky us we can run that in an
M14P as well!!!(mixed)

Terry,
Walt is correct. The taper pin comes in from below and the nut is at the
top. I blame the reversal on my dyslexia.
The idea of the bolt and washer taped into the end of the shaft is a good one
Walt. I notice at times when I grease that area, the pressure from the
grease gun has a tendency to push out that back bushing.

Subject: | FAST ground school |
--> Yak-List message posted by: Barry Hancock <barry@flyredstar.org>
Having seen the question posed a number of times, I felt I'd chime in
in the FWIW category on FAST training for pilots new to the game.
Typically the question that comes up is something like "I fly formation
with my buddies all the time, and I've read the manual, do I need the
ground school?" It's a perfectly legitimate question, so let me give
you some things to consider.
The FAST ground school is more than just a manual. If you went to
college and took a class that was important from a good professor, you
not only had to read the books but also attend the lectures because the
professor would give insight on the material you had read and also give
additional insight. Same thing goes with our ground school. Consider
this:
> Further to our discussion about RPA training; as you know, I have been
> a fighter tactics instructor in the United States Air Force, an
> instructor, check airman and designee with American Airlines and a CFI
> in general aviation. Training the way you fly, and flying the way you

> forceful (and occasionally humbling).
If a guy of this caliber attends the ground school not once, but twice,
there must be value in it.
I have spoken with many different folks that have had the opportunity
to receive training both inside and outside the RPA. To a man they all
say that our ground school and instruction is THE BEST available. Why
not take advantage of it? Even if you are current it's always good to
refresh your knowledge, right?
Knowing how to fly formation is good, knowing everything there is to
know about it (technique, standardization issues, emergencies, etc.)
takes time both in the air and in the classroom. My personal opinion
is until you can teach the ground school effectively, it's probably
worth the time to attend. I've been through the ground school 3 or 4
times and have always found it of value....
Fly safe, and fly often!

Subject: | Happy Thanksgiving! and Air system - related comments |
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Carl W Hays Enterprises" <yakparts@simplyweb.net>
Good morning, Group:
I have two comments regarding the air sytem discussion that has been taking place:
1. Rather than dealing with the soggy mess of finding air leaks with soapy water
or the expense (about $750.00) of an ultrasonic unit that the HVAC guys use,
trot down to Radio Shack or similar staore and buy an audio amplifier ($25)
and good pair of headsets ($16) to detect the whoosh of escaping air. This tip
was given to me by one of my customers and when I dig out the reference I will
credit him properly. He initially used it to detect a bad seal in one of
his landing gear actuators.
2. Air distributor problems on M-14P:
~ The air valves on the cylinder, P.N. 14-27-602 are prone to problems caused
by corrosion and debris.
~ You should not have a problem with the timing on the air distributor itself,
unless:
A. You have disassembled the engine to the point that you need to re-time
the valve on reassembly. Unlikely for most owners.
B. A load has caused the accessory shaft to twist and changed the timing
on
the gears. In that case, you have bigger problems than timing of
the air
distributor. If this is the case, I would advise that you call myself
or Carl.
(To my knowledge, Carl and I are the second and third persons in the
U.S. to
be certified by the OKBM factory in Voronezh for overhaul of the M-14P
and
-PF engines, behind Rich Hamilton. We plan to actively overhaul engines
in
the summer of 2005, after we move into our new facility in Kingman,
Arizona.
We have been repairing hydraulic-locked engines on an emergency
basis, as we are in the full swing of moving.)
I hope this is informative.

Heck, I'll buy lunch for a back seat ride. I've been angling for one for a while

You might check with Nik Timofeev. Near Ocala - I think his grass strip is
called Shady maybe - landed there once in Sukhoi. Nik has three hangars and
maybe access to more. niktim@earthlink.net

Thanksgiving is one of those special holidays....... "a time to give
thanks". It gives us time to reflect on our lives and give thanks for
everything that is good. I give thanks for our freedoms, good friends,
family, and even the little things like the people on this list.
To those who read this list in countries like Russia, Romania,
Lithuania, China, South Africa, Australia or wherever, I hope that you
too will share in the sense of this special holiday of giving thanks.

Here, Here and Mega Dittos, Pappy.
May God bless each of you and your families on this most American of
Holidays. We have SO MUCH for which to give thanks. Take a moment and write
a
short note of appreciation to a serviceman in Iraq. Without their diligence and
sacrifice (and the diligence and sacrifice of those who served before) we
would have much less for which to be giving thanks !
You guys (and the occasional girl) are the best!
