I note with interest the work as reported in Richards mail below what's
happening in Russia and would like to advise the facility we offer for M14P
engine overhaul in Europe. The advantages of using a company that's governed
by EU law are numerous. Saying that you will never have to revert to law!!.
My web page at http://www.yakuk.com/M14P.asp
Currently we overhaul 4 engines per month. M14P, PF and AI 14RA. These are
sold on exchange basis therefore immediately available. Either ex works UK
or Lithuania.

M14P Family of Engines
I have recently returned from a trip to Russia, specifically looking at
various
aspects of our engine business.
We are particularly interested in the supply of parts; the manufacture of
engines
from new parts, rather than 'old stock' but unused engines, as well as the
situation with higher powered (450hp) variants.

In reply to Ira Sagligman's request for blades, certainly the problem in Europe
is that we have lots of hubs and no blades.
With ground-strikes/water penetration, we lose a lot of blades each year, but hubs
are typically fine.=20
We for example have got eight or so hubs with no blades for them.
Effectively, here anyway, a pair of blades is worth almost as much as a complete
propeller!

Now is time for the Winter solstice. Gus must go seek a
virgin to honor his ancient roots while I freeze in the icy
grip of a Florida cold front. Down to freezing here this AM,
it probably won't be until 11am until the hanger warms up
enough to do some 'glass work on my prop.
Hmmm, now where did I put those sunglasses :)

Who is the idiot who ordered winter weather for the Southeastern United
States? I will be departing at dawn tomorrow to fly up to Texas for
Christmas, passing through FL. This weather is simply unacceptable.
Fix it!
BTW, there are two things I won't fly through: ice and thunderstorms,
both of which are going to be sitting on my path across the FL
panhandle, Louisiana, and eastern TX. Bah, humbug!
<sigh> FWIW, it is almost 80F here in the VI.

Greetings Yak drivers,
Over the past year I've been testing an experimental electronic ignition
conversion for the M9 magneto, running on an Ivchenko AI-14R in a Wilga. The
results have been quite favorable. We're planning to test this system on an
M14 next. Assuming the same positive results, we plan to begin offering
conversion kits for these engines with various features and options, such
as:
-Automatic Start Retard
-User-selectable Timing Advance Curves
-Rev-limiting
- Boost Retard
-Use Inexpensive Auto Sparkplugs (Bosch Platinum)
Feel free to contact me directly for more information.

anyone know the best place to buy the Randolph butyrate dope, filler and
thinner products I need. I see Randolph have been bought out but don't know
of any west coast suppliers other than Aircraft Spruce. I can ship the
chemicals via a friends container in Long Beach so somewhere near would be
best. I assume transporting chemicals of this type is as problematic
(expensive) in the U.S. as it is in N.Z.

If your blades are still in one piece, you might want to try Whirlwind
Propellers, their website claims they can rebuild them. See:

Subject: | Yak 55 Hen's Teeth. |
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Ben Marsh" <ben@designselect.net>
Greetings, Salutations, Hello!
This is a message for a special group of folks with broken Yak
55s from a guy with a broken Yak 55. There are only a few of us. In the
context of this discussion, the term "broken" refers to those unfortunate
enough to have a '55 with the landing gear ripped out of the fuselage. This
is broken, no?
A month or so ago, I acquired a '55M that suffered an engine
failure, coming to grief in a field where substantial damage was done to the
front end of the fuselage, when the landing gear struts were torn out. The
damage to my wreck includes the firewall, the gear box, the lower stringers,
several formers and a couple other machined trinkets that provide structural
integrity to the landing gear assembly. It was a bad day at the ranch. To
make matters worse, these parts are not available for sale. This is why my
wreck sat in a hanger for ten years before I got the bright idea to stand up
and restore it. I am taking up the challenge of having these key parts C &
C machined. If this sounds expensive, that's because it is expensive!
However, doing so is the only way my airplane will fly again.
The truth of the matter is that I am not the only 55 guy in the
world with this problem. As well, without these parts, 55s and perhaps 54s
that suffer the aforementioned "bad day at the ranch" are just about
worthless junk. For those of us that would like to breath life back into an
otherwise good airplane, I am here to help. Within six weeks, I will be
able to supply most of the key machined parts that will be damaged in such a
crash, certainly in the model 55 and perhaps in the '54.
Thus, if any of you good people know of anyone else that might
have a need for these parts, please let me know. My intent is not to soak
anyone. Indeed, I would be happy to simply reduce my R & D costs. And, if
a couple more 55s come back to like, that would be an outstanding result!
Regards,
Ben Marsh

Maybe.... I'm just up here at Dallas Addison (ADS)
Not far from Austin.... 1.5 hours maybe...
Only reason that I won't be here is that my folks, up in Michigan, are
hoping I fly in surprise style for the Holiday...
How long are you gonna be in Austin?
