Gang,
The discussion on owner maintenance as it pertains to the regulations
has been interesting. There is also a practical side to this that is
quite serious. I think that most of us on this list are quite capable
of performing most routine maintenance operations on our aircraft. As
we spend more time "under the hood" we become more capable and
comfortable with doing more and more of the work. HOWEVER, the other
side of this is that we are taking on more significant tasks with a
larger likelihood of not understanding all the implications of our
actions (or lack thereof). These implications can have life or death
consequences. Even an improperly performed oil change can ruin your
day.
I have lost two friends this year in airplanes, one of which for sure
could have been avoided had he enlisted help for seemingly mundane
maintenance by a licensed and knowledgeable mechanic.
Performing your own maintenance is a great way to better understand our
airplanes and save some gas money. We also might ask ourselves if the
work we are doing is not only good enough for ourselves, but any
precious cargo we might be carrying in the back seat....
Cheers,
Barry

Hey gang ,
Anybody know of a cheap CJ airframe for sale?, missing
engine and instruments is OK, have M-14. I saw one on
Ebay not too long ago that looked like a project
someone had given up on. Please contact me off list at
A35plt@yahoo.com.
Thanks,
Robert Starnes

I suppose the important thing for us owner/non-A&P types is that, yes, we
can work on the airplanes, but we need the supervision of a licensed
mechanic, just like working on a type certificated airplane.
