--> Yak-List message posted by: "cpayne@joimail.com" <cpayne@joimail.com> Sun 'n Funners, I do not know of any warbird pre-registration since Warbirds of America will NOT be there as an entity. Many of the WOA volunteers and WOA members will be there, but as Florida Air Museum volunteers. I'm not sure how registration will be handled. First come, First served?? Craig Payne

--> Yak-List message posted by: "cpayne@joimail.com" <cpayne@joimail.com> Folks, Just checked with local car rentals. Reservations for the SNF event period are going fast. At ZPH, Jomax (813-788-5539) has a weekly rate of $254.70 out-the-door for Full size cars, mid-size availability is limited. Regulars at events like SNF and OSH often sublet unused seats on a "seat day" basis to help share the cost. This system has worked well for everyone before. Craig Payne

    Subject: Front Gear Shimmy Damper
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Frank Haertlein" <yak52driver@earthlink.net> Yakkers Just got back from the machine shop with my repaired shimmy damper system. Turns out the original bushings were already made from the high quality aluminum bronze material. The machinist did a very nice job. He made new bushings custom fit to the bores and then made new pins for all the rotating parts. He was surprised by the mis-match of some of the bores (could only have come from the factory that way). He line bored everything to match, put in the new bushings and then installed new custom pins ground to size. There was one noted weakness in the original factory configuration. The large rotating part that transfers motion up and to the damper had no provision for lubrication of its bottom bushing. Despite your best lubrication efforts, this particular bushing will remain dry and will prematurely wear. If my part is any indication, then the whole fleet is affected the same way. The part was modified by extending the lubrication hole from the top zirc fitting through to the bottom bushing. A small radius had to be ground on the taper pin, but now the bottom bushing will get grease when you go through your normal lubrication routine. If any of you are in the market to get your shimmy damper system repaired better than new then I recommend his work highly. As he's said "I've gone through a hell of a learning curve". He's mentioned that he's willing to "do more of these things" (and "NO" I don't get a cut). He simply does excellent work so I'm recommending him. If you're interested contact..... Scott Bomar Machine 1095 Goodrick Dr. Tehachapi, CA 93561 661-822-4671 PS He also does prototype production work if you're interested.
