I guess I'll just have to do some research and confirm Pappy's theory on the presence of "GIRLS"... ;-) As for SnF, nop not going. Flying to KLAL and back would burn about 1/3 of my yearly gas money. I much prefer to burn it on other more fun events like the ones in KGED. Mass form aint my thing... Plus Charlie Lynch and I may hook up that week to kick off the rust for the season. This does not constitute any restriction whatsoever on the aircraft you can fly in formation. It is intended simply as a "pride of ownership" indicator. Once you are formation qualified, you are formation qualified in any airplane you wish to fly -- assuming you can get at least one other pilot to agree to get close to you. I've heard that some are concerned about FAA scrutiny, some are concerned about liability, some fly so many different aircraft (think Barry Hancock) that we would have to enlarge the card to poster size, and some even don't have any pride of ownership. With all this in mind, we will not be putting any aircraft type on future FAST card issues unless you specifically request it be posted. The directive will give you the forms to fill out along with what FSDO is looking for as far as what you want "waived" It will tell you precisely which FAR's can and cannot be waived. Akro within 4 miles of Airway can be waived. Akro below 1500 ft AGL can be waived. Akro over populated areas cannot be waived...that kind of stuff. I'm not familiar with the process, I was just passing on info from out IAC chapter pres who does this sort of stuff. We've had the box for years, so I have no idea what the application process was. Ernie ________________________________ Message 25 ____________________________________ Time: 06:42:26 PM PST US From: "Sam Sax" Subject: RE: Yak-List: oil analysis - HELP --> Yak-List message posted by: "Sam Sax" Richard, Oil analysis is effective only as a trend monitoring technique not just for a one time assessment of engine condition. I've been doing the oil spectro-analysis every 40 hours on my M-14P since new. With several such tests in a row, one could establish a trend of what's going on inside the engine - a great tool for monitoring the engine condition.. The motor is "making" metal continuously. You will see higher reading during the break-in and when something begins to go wrong. Just like a compression test - unless its really bad, a single test will not be conclusive. If your tests are done not in steady interval, I guess one could interpolate the results to the hours level you want. As to Chromium, I don't think wear of the cylinder walls is the culprit as the Cyls are made of steel. It's the piston rings that are Chrome plated and in my opinion, piston ring wear is the cause of higher level of Chromium. The iron (Fe) in the sample can come from the cylinder walls or gears. Not sure about silver although there are internal components that are silver impregnated (or plated), most likely the crankshaft main bearings. It would be best to consult any qualified engine overhaul shop for source of the various metals. I have been using (for the last 18 years) - Lab One, Inc. 101 W. Mohave, Phoenix, AZ 85003. Tel: 480.839.5221. Speak to Dianne. If requested, they will fax you the results in 24 hours and mail the report as well. Call her for oil sampling kits. They are real pros with great customer service. (If you do call, please say hello from me). My latest oil test showed very similar results to yours @ 501 hours (my engine time is 495 hours). Although Labs upper limits threshold may vary (above which is deemed abnormal), Lab One set FE upper limit at 50.00, CR at 20.00 and Silver at 2.00. Again, check with a qualified engine overhaul shop... I know there are many who have said they are planning to attend, but at this point I only have 7 registered. It is important for planning purposes (particularly instructor support) that we have an accurate count of all who will show up. Priority will be given to those who have pre-registered. If you have not done so, please visit the RPA site, go to the Events section, click on RPA #138 and register. Alternatively, click here: http://www.flyredstar.org/A_EventsReg.aspx?Event_ID=RPA138 I will be putting together the final details...hotels, etc., tomorrow and will send out that info as soon as I have it. Here are the people and aircraft I have officially registered for the event so far: George Lazik Yak-52 Frank Stelwagon CJ-6 Frank Surfas CJ-6 Tom Elliot CJ-6 Hal Provo CJ-6 Barry Hancock L-39 Neils Valentiner L-39 Again, there are many that I have spoken with that I know are planning to attend, so if you could please formalize it, we'd greatly appreciate your help!
