Of course all RedStar folks are invited but this is for an WW2 re-enactment part of the airshow. They want to put removable German markings on our airplanes. I'd like to get back to the organizers as early as possible. The NATA (T28 & T6) guys are already pretty much up on board. For the act part you'll need; FAST card, flight suit, parachute, commercial & current 2nd class medical. They are paying room and fuel. I'd like every one who's flying in the act to wear a helmet or cloth helmet (Got to look the part!) :-) Yea, Yea, I know, just what kind of German airplane are we suppose to look like? We there to have fun and remind and teach the younger ones that there was a "WW2". In our own way (being the 'bad guys') we're honoring those vets who fought it. Standing by off list. The cause of corrosion in the Y50 & T55 air systems is that the pipe materials (pure ally) made in Ashenyev factory are not "pure". Its the impurities that cause the intergranualare corrosion and the pin holes in the tubing. If you have a Y50/55 that's 20 years old you will have more than likely experienced leaking pipes. If not you certainly will very soon, 100% !! . The only fix is to replace all the pipe work at overhaul. The Y52 does not suffer the same poor metal pipes generally, being made at a different factory. But...the Y52 does suffer intergranular corrosion of the main spar, this we have seen many times. 4 fixes available. 1. send the wings to Aerostar for new cap strips (see note 1) 2. replace the wings with "new old stock" usually sourced from Ukraine. 3. Send wings to Termikas for new cap strips 4. scrap the a/c Note 1, aerostar does not have the material at present apparently. (Christian Dragoi, please comment, where do you obtain the materials from?) Hope that helps, the debate. Does the glycerine or alcohol absorb the water as H2O, or is it chemically combined with it? In other words, is the water still water or something else? Will it still cause corrosion? Don G.
