Hi all,
Just wanted to check the baro adjustment on my carb as Mark suggested.I have the
proceedure as described in the Maintenance Manual. Can someone just clarify
if the measurement of the depth of the rod is taken from the rod end back to the
first step in the case or back to the surface of the ring pressed into the
case??
Thanks
Egon.

Excuse my ignorance but what type of carb do you have on the M-14? My Husoi
was running rough and missing and it turned out to be a stripped nut that
adjusted a needle in the diaphragm chamber of the mixture. I ended up replacing
the
carb and it solved the problems.

Richard--Thanks for your response.
Perhaps things have changed, but in my days as a dealer for Aerostar I was
never able to get anything more than a list of SB's from Aerostar--no text
of the actual docs or drawings, even after repeated requests. I have a
mechanic who is pretty good at Russian, but maybe they figured we'd never be
able to read them. Cristian? Although I've seen snippets of POH and OH
manuals for -52's and M-14's, I've never seen the complete manuals and don't
know where to get them. Perhaps you and/or Mark have them?
Dennis Savarese, Mark Jefferies and others list some of the bulletins on
their websites, but, with a few exceptions, I've never seen actual text or
drawings. I've never seen anything from Vedeneyev or whoever makes the
props and appliances.
Having said that, the documentation for Yaks is MUCH better than for CJ's.
IPC's are available from Doug Sapp and others, but I've never seen even a
list of SB's, let alone text or drawings from the Nanchang or Huosai folks,
prop or appliance mfrs. Maintenance or overhaul manuals, proper POH? Nada,
zip, zero that I'm aware of. CJ's usually are in pretty sad shape when they
hit our shores. I suppose its mute testimony to their basic integrity and
the skills of our A&P's that there aren't more problems.
When Mark mentioned the canopy release ball SB it was news to me and
probably to many others reading this list. I'm sure there are many others
most are unaware of. Even if many are "trivial" (like the ball?), safety
demands awareness and compliance.
It's easy to underestimate the value of the various manuals, AD's, SB's,
advisories etc we take for granted for US certificated aircraft. Most
mechanics are unfamiliar with round engines, don't read Russian or Chinese
and (should be) reluctant to work on unfamiliar aircraft without a good set
of manuals. Trying to figure it out from the pictures in the IPC and
AC-43.13 may be better than nothing, but not much.
Maybe I should keep my ignorance to myself, but I doubt I'm alone.

Jerry Painter raises a good point about these.
Historically we have found that most operators in the US have either been
blissfully ignorant or not terribly interested in Service Bulletins.
Certainly in the UK our CAA are much more aware of these, and, by and large,
insist on full compliance.
There are also a large number of Service Bulletins. We have all of them for
Yak-18T/Yak-50/Yak-52 (widely available through Aerostar anyway)/Yak-55.
We also have them for Vedeneyev.
HOWEVER we are talking about many many hundreds of pages in Russian, which
is fine if you operate with Russian engineers as we do. It would be a
mammoth task to translate all Service Bulletins for all aircraft.
In addition, it is fair to note that many are trivial, but many critical!
What do people want to do?

SE Region Yakkers;
Looking for something to do while the Left Coasters are
doing RedStar? How about joining me at Lumberton, NC for
their 2nd annual Mid-Atlantic EAA fly-in. I'll be there May
12-15. Hotels are cheap, shuttle ride to/from field. I'm
booked at the Magnificent Knights Inn at I-95 exit 20. Good
place to hide from your adoring public and RedStar guys all
love Cheap :) No official WB presence so no freebies but
I'll try and work wristbands for fly-ins. Perhaps some
fly-arounds as a gaggle during the airshow??

Fellow Red Star aviators,
All Red Star 2005 is 3 weeks out. I have just returned from the land
of ARS where meetings with both the Fresno FSDO and Castle Airport were
fruitful. All the essential items are in place for another great year
at Castle!
Of course your volunteer staff still has MUCH work to do, but we are
ahead of last year's schedule both in organization and volunteer
support. On that note, we are still in need of volunteers willing to
pitch in in the following areas:
-Flight Scheduling
-Ground handlers/ aircraft marshaling
-Welcome truck (greet new arrivals on the ramp, hand them a cold
beverage and tell them how cool their plane is!).
-Aircraft judging committee
We are looking for both full time volunteers (non-fliers) and pilots
that are willing to stand down for half of one day to help the event
run smoothly. If you are interested, please contact Postal at
hap1995@yahoo.com
If you haven't already, check out the short promo video at
www.allredstar.com to get the juices flowing.
We're looking forward to seeing you at All Red Star 2005!
Blue skies and red stars,
Barry
