Regarding the smoke system switch should it be a momentary hold-on or a

Does anyone have thoughts one way or the other

Anybody have a source for the ORIGINAL air filler? I have a source in
Prague, but getting them is pretty spotty and I'm looking for several of
them.
Preferably with a hose attached... I just take them to the auto store and
they swedge a 1/4" NPT fitting on the end.
I want to be the first person on my block with a SCUBA to Commie adapter!

On/off works best for airshows and the "Four Minute Free" I have found.
There is no time to be putzing around with hold on buttons when you are
"a little" busy. Sukhoi factory smoke is on/off switch on throttle.
Yak-55 on/off switch I got from Mark Jefferies I mounted near the
throttle.

But you won't be the first one to have done it outside of your block. -)
Seriously though, the best source in the US is Carl Hays. He usually stocks
them. If you're unable to get them from him, try contacting Aerostar in
Romania directly. Email Cristian Dragoi at aerostar@aerostar.ro.

too! Hmmmmm.....

Mine on the Yak-55 is an on/off type mounted on the stick where push to talk
switches are often mounted. The PTT is mounted in the throttle. I also
have 2 LED's in the dash, one to tell when the smoke pump is engaged and one
to tell when the smoke solenoid is engaged and thus the a/cr is producing
smoke. There is a circuit breaker switch in the panel to engage the smoke
pump. There is also a 1/4 turn ball valve between the pump and the solenoid
which can be used for several purposes such as complete shutoff of smoke oil
for servicing the system or for throttling the oil to the solenoid if you
have a very high delivery pump as I do which is capable of producing more
smoke than necessary at times and dramatically consuming the smoke oil.

A guy I know had the same idea, he now flies a super skymaster in a
aerobatic routine. His Skymaster has been converted to total hand control
because he is paralyzed from the waist down, the direct result of selector
mis-management. He took off with his aux fuel / smoke oil tank full of
smoke oil and feeding the engine. Shit happens guys, keep it simple,
creating more points of possible failure is not good.

Upon further reflection, how could you keep a hair brain like me from
pumping smoke oil into the fuel system, or even worse...RAW FUEL into
the exhaust??? Though *that* would make a great show....once.

OK, So Can That Idea! I'm not going to reinvent the wheel while risking my
ass! Guess I could just buy a new set of wings from Aerostar and go from
there. That being since more fuel in the fusalage has not totally appealed
to me anyway. But neither does screwing up a really good paint job to put
on a centerline tank of dubious function or installing a fuel tank behind
the rear seat for an extra 8.5 to14.5 gal. Suppose I will just have to
live with 160 lt. and 150 mi legs.
My bladder's been trained to that anyway from fl'n Vipers.
Ah, so it 's back to the Hooter Hose and Frog hops!

And the first time you make a mistake and turn on smoke when the smoke oil
tank is full of fuel, you will have a hot time! Your wingman is going to key
the mike and utter the immortal words, "Yak lead, you're on fire."
I bet the flames coming out the stacks will be totally cool tho!

And I'd finally have the immortality I've been looking for! And that
illusive cockpit heat problem is solved, too!

As some of you know, my CJ is at KCMA waiting for an engine. I flew my C-140
to Kvny and back. The trip back to Placerville yesterday took 3.7 (non
stop). Brutally slow. The CJ does it around 2.0.
Anyone interested in a nice little Cessna 140.
Call for details.

Yeh, on hell of a show. Blowing fireballs out the stacks and the ass end
off your YAK! Anybody got that Sukoi extractor seat installed yet. We gonna
need it to survive this fuel in the smoke tank after a brain fart. Man,
think I'll continue to pursue the wing mod for extra fuel and steer clear
of the aux fuel/smoke tank. I've had enough hot times in my life. Gotta say
though, those stacks look pretty cool at night when your climbing out of
the pattern with blue glow! Imagine what it would look like with aux tank
blower lit! Probably could light up the whole danged Airport....ONCE!
Hey, we could run some of the two stroke oil a little on the heavy side
mixed with 100 LL in the aux tank. The smoke would be a little lighter but
would be avoiding the fireballs in the stacks though. Hum, another use for
MMO.

Troops,
I have to take a check ride tomorrow to renew my instructors ticket. I plan
to start for SPI early Thursday morning.
First stop will be La Grange (LGC), GA.
Next stop will be Madison Co. (MDQ)
I'll be joining up with some guys there I guess.
After MDQ, if I'm teamed up with Yaks, of course I'll be jumping from one
airport to the next. ;-) but CHQ Charleston, MO. is supposed to have cheap fuel
($2.20)

Doc;
Sorry to say the only extractor seat in a Sukhoi (SU-26) went into
terra firma in Telluride CO a couple of summers ago. Dude never
actuated it. Boris Rakitin (sp?) design engineer for Sukhoi came to
check it out. Bomb squad had to release the wreckage due the explosives
on board - unfired.
