The Snowbirds had at one point colored smoke. I know the had to add
something to their smoke oil, but wouldn't be abe to venture a gess. Some
of the European teams, Frecce Tricolori for one, use both white and colored
smoke.

To the best of my knowledge, nothing. What they are doing is something with
the smoke oil. The smoke system on a jet works the same way then on a
piston engine, it simply sends a fluid into the exhaust that is burned thus
trailing smoke. How is is colored???? Beats me.
On the other hand, le me inquire with folks from the Northern lights and I
come back with an answer.

Folks,
Just spoke to Andre Lortie (2 years Snowbirds and 7 as Lead for the
NorthernLights) and he says to get colored smoke you simply have to add dye
to your smoke oil. Tons and tons of it. They tried with the Extra and he
said its the shits. Clogs the smoke system like there is no tomorrow, so
the stuck with the white smoke.

Jets can do it because of the much higher temperatures achieved in the
outlet nozzles. Recips can't reach said temperatures so the chemicals used
for color can't be combusted they way they are in jets. Nobody has found
how to make a piston engine create colored smoke from the exhaust.

I'm looking for a damaged "Paddle Blade" prop for a project
I'm working on. Here is a chance to clean out that hanger
trash for cash! Whole prop or just blades OK.
Please reply OFF-LIST if you have something available. I'm
not looking for any other kind of prop at this time.
