Those would reply off-list,
I DO get mail, sometimes the spam filter sticks it in the
quarantine area. What's been happening lately is that my ISP
is dumping "dial-ups" like myself over to earthlink even
though we retain the same email address. Sometimes, nothing
works. Try again I guess.

Byron,
I've decided to go with Vinyl decals rather than paint (I've come to
the conclusion that I dont want to paint anything more than I have to
now).
How do they look, are the the right size and color????

You ought to try Bill Blackwell in Arizona for the shutters and Jim Selby for
the
stand off rods etc.. Bill sold me a good straight set of shutters from one of the
conversions he has been doing at a very reasonable (not inflated) price. You can
get Bill's number from Jim at 831 883 1266..

Well, I've Crossed over the Bridge, Seen the Light, and
Taken the Pledge...no more Speed. Given today's Avgas
prices, it's all about MPG and lowering costs per hour. To
this end I have re-tuned the M-14P, and will pursue more
aerodynamic improvements.
However; I need good data, good fuel flow and MPG data,
coupled to my GPS. I'm looking at 3 guages on the market:
Shadin Microflow, EI's FP-5L, and the JPI FS-450. Does
anyone have some feedback on using this equipment? I hear
that transducers may not be as accurate as turbines, and
Vice-versa.
BTW, as a comparison, I currently burn 9.2GPH to a Yak-52's
15GPH in formation. Surely, there is room for improvement!

I am in the process of replacing the old generator with a new alternator on my

used and their experience with the new equipment. The old Chinese intruments
and gyros are long gone, replaced by modern gear.
Thanks,

I'm using the larger B&C alternator with my CJ. I like it, have had no
problems with it. It also charges just a little above idle speed.

I have been using the B&C 35 amp for 4 years now - light and flawless!
I also like the fact that the regulator is not a part of the alternator
itself.

--> Yak-List message posted by: "Charlie Lynch" <lynch@netjets.com>
Kimble's Aviation Summer Fly-in
Georgetown, DE (KGED)
***** DATE CHANGE *****
June 23 - 26th
We have had to change the date of the event. We apologize for the last
minute change.
Our plan is to have arrivals Thursday afternoon for those who want to
maximize their flying or for those new formation pilots who wish to
participate in the Formation Ground School.
The Ground School will begin bright and early on Friday morning. If you
have not been through the RPA Ground School and are new to formation
flying, the Ground School is mandatory.
We anticipate finishing up Sunday mid-afternoon so that those who have
further to fly can still be home before sunset.
We will again be staying at the Atlantic Inn and a bus will provide us
group transportation to and from the hotel. We have held aside 20
rooms.
You need to book your own room no later than the 23rd of May. After
that date, the rooms will be released and the rates will increase to
their summer levels. The phone number is 302 934 6711. The rooms are
$69 a night Thurs and $99 Fri & Sat. You must mention RED STAR PILOTS to
get those rates.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Plenty of cold water will also be
provided through out the day. Beer on tap will be dispensed when the
chocks are set after the last flight of the day. The bus will take the
group to the finer dinning establishments in the greater metro
Georgetown area where you will be responsible for your own meals.
Kimble's line service personal will be available to help fuel aircraft,
top up oil, clean windshields and marshal planes as needed. A mechanic
will also be on hand all weekend long to provide support as needed.
Sean is working with the FAA to have an acro box in place by the June
dates.
Please contact me for a copy of the registration form. It will need to
be COMPLETELY filled out and either emailed back to me or fax it to
203.637.4747. This helps us get a better feel for who is coming, how
many leads we need and how many check pilots.
If you have any questions, please give me a call. 203.637.2914
Many thanks,
Charlie

B&C make good stuff. Size your worst case *continuous* load and it should be
less than 90% of the rated output of the alternator.

Craig;
I have a FS 450 in my CJ (Stock Engine) with the sensor designed for an aircraft
with fuel pump; and due to the satisfaction with it, put one in my Cessna 182
(gravity flow). Both of them are coupled to GPSs (the cessna has an antique
Garmin 100, and the CJ has a Garmin 250.) Accuracy of BOTH units is within the
ability of me to tell "how full I filled it up last time vs this time". The
most recent filling of the C-182 had the FS 450 telling me that I had used 58
gallons; while I added 56.5 gallons.
My reason for the initinal installation in the CJ approximately 3 years ago was
due to the relatively small tanks (limited range without refueling) compared
to the Cessna with 76 gallons. Now I am able to extend my "comfortable useful
range" on the CJ by 30-45 minutes compared to previously depending on the gauges.
The price on the FS 450 jumped approximately $100 between the two purchase, but
I consider the current price an excellent deal. The installation is straight
forward and the coupling to the Garmin devices easy.
Hope this helps. rb

Wow....what a great time... A total of 18 airplanes and crews showed up, and we
had 14 flying in the shows. Like SkyFest last year, we had the mass formations
flying opposite a 4 ship to keep the fans entertained. "Kilo" did a fantastic
job leading the mass formation flying with Jeff Pritchard. Besides our routine,
we flew incentive and VIP rides, a photo mission for local photographers,
partied every night with other performers and airshow buffs, and signed COUNTLESS
autographs (we finally said Uncle!!). I can't remember when I've had a
better time...what a great bunch of folks to hang out with...! My face still hurts
from all the laughter and smiling...
Some feedback: the airboss, a retired General-type raved to the airshow organizers
that the "Red Stars" were the hit of the whole show! Not only did we have
a great act, it really made a difference that we were at all the airshow events,
having a good time, meeting people, signing autographs and flying all the rides!
Our presence was known....loud and clear! (and we only emptied out one
restaurant with our singing of "Swing Low.....Sweat Chariot...ktwhewy...")
I am amazed at the quality of flying we put together with such little practice...and
we have great video to prove it. The formations looked great, and we had
very professional performances. Met all our slot times, despite rain on Friday,
and winds gusting to 27 knots on Sunday. We even had the opportunity to
have one of the F-15 demo pilots ride with us! Of course the highlight was watching
"Team Red", Terry and Rodger, pull out of the mass directly into a formation
loop to start their 2-ship formation acro routine!
I must second Rich Hess' sentiments that its folks like us that make a real difference
in this world. I hope that we inspired some people to follow their dreams
in life...whatever they may be!
Thanks to ALL you Terry Calloway impersonators for an awesome event! Can't wait
to get together again!
Jeff Linebaugh
