Kelley,
I had the exact same indication problem in my CJ a few years back....swapped
the indicators front to back, and the problem followed---turned out to be
the indicator....

You may just have a "flapper" in the replacement fuel hose affecting the
fuel pressure.

You have one line carring fuel pressure to a manifold that goes to the
sending units. Thios line should have a 1 mm restricter along the line
to dampin out any pulsations. I would suggest swapping out the
electrical leads of the sending units. It's a 5 minute job that will
eliminate the sending units as the problem. If the problem stays, the
the receiving units or gauges are at fault.
Your hose isn't the problem unless its leaking to the outside. If the
hose was blocked off, not likely, then your gauges would be reading
zero.

Cylinder Head Temperatures
To correct what seems to be quite widely held misunderstandings:
=C3=98 Maximum continuous is 220=CB=9AC.
=C3=98 RED LINE is 240=CB=9AC. Prolonged operation at 230/240=CB=9A C will
significantly affect engine life with warped cylinder bores etc.=20
=C3=98 If engines are running hot, then magneto timing etc should be checked.
=C3=98 IMPORTANTLY, cooling on the M14P is also achieved through fuel. A
hot running engine should have a smaller compensating jet fitted =E2=80=93 very
few owners seem to understand this, and either complain about engines being
too hot, or too cold, in which case they are using unnecessary fuel!
Also note that the Russian temperature gauges are only accurate to 10=CB=9A C,
if that. Some can be out by 20=CB=9A C, and in addition the gauge is not necessarily
showing the hottest cylinder!

Anyone had their M-14 cylinders ported and flow-matched? Any
improvements from doing this? I'm thinking about pulling my jugs off

That said, I personally would find it quite helpful to know where this
compensating jet is located, and how to access it, and lastly, where to
obtain a jet "kit" to allow me to adjust as necessary.
Can you help Richard?

Richard,
Can you translate what you ment by =C3=98, =CB=9A C,and =E2=80=93. I think
we have a computer program mismatch. Therefore, we are getting the message
garbled in tranlation between the two. Or is it just because you Brits
drive on the wrong side for the road? It's a joke,ok? Before someone takes
it personal.

Not sure what the quantitative data is but I got "good"
results from Polishing the Intake/Exhaust ports. Don't
forget to "match" the upper plenum of the carb to the blower
opening, a little smoothing helps here too. My feeling is
that the Intake work will yield the greatest value for the
effort. Of course, nobody does just One thing when seeking
efficient operation...the results are best shown by
carefully taking performance data at the recommended power
settings, BEFORE and After the mod.
