Cylinder Head Temperatures
To correct what seems to be quite widely held misunderstandings:
Maximum continuous is 220 degrees centigrade.
RED LINE is 240 degrees centigrade. Prolonged operation at 230/240 degrees will
significantly affect engine life with warped cylinder bores etc.=20
If engines are running hot, then magneto timing etc should be checked.
IMPORTANTLY, cooling on the M14P is also achieved through fuel. A hot running
engine should have a smaller compensating jet fitted - so few owners seem to understand
this, and either complain about engines being too hot, or too cold,
in which case they are using unnecessary fuel!
Also note that the Russian temperature gauges are only accurate to 10 degrees centigrade,
if that. Some can be out by 20 degrees centigrade, and in addition
the gauge is not necessarily showing the hottest cylinder!

In reply to Mark Bitterlich:
I assume you have a manual? If you don=92t, any work on the carburettor is a nightmare.
The Russians call the compensating jet a =91suction jet.=92
It is under a cover just above the fuel inlet pipe.
You unscrew the cover, and you have jets, which range from 1.1mm to 2.1mm. A bigger
jet results in a weaker mixture. Rob Kent (contact: rkent@wlacrussianeng.co.uk)
has jet kits.
In my opinion the majority of engines running hot or cold are down to the wrong
jet, provided ignition is correct.
I hope this helps.

A T-6 from Warbird Adventures out of Kissimmee went down
with two fatals. Rumor over at Kissimmee says wing
separation. The T-6 underwent extensive repair last year
after damage from the hurricanes.

Yep, we may see a lot more of this since the T-34's are grounded, they
will start using T-6's for ACM for hire. This will result in a lot
more folding wings. Lets hope that no one gets the idea of using CJ's
and Yaks for Air Combat adventures.
On a similar note a DC-3 under restoration at TICO had its gear
collapse while an older volunteer and a 15 year old were underneath
it, killing the man , and seriously injuring the kid.
