We are having an outstanding showing here at All Red Star in California.
Last night at the Friday airshow I counted 51 RPA airplanes on the ramp and we
had more arrive this morning. The airshow last night was amazing!
We are missing all you East coast guys!

postal,
We southeasterners are working on a Red Air Fall Fling for 13-15 OCT. More to come
later as the details get worked out. We have a closed AFB to play from here
in Al also. Large open Ramp, cheap gas, good food, open airspace, long runways,
and more to come later. Doubt it can rival Red Stars though. You guys have
had a little bit of a headstart....

I am nearing the purchase of a CJ6 and need to start thinking about what
avionics to install. I would like a simple( read inexpensive) package that would
include a comm, an intercom and transponder.
My questions are:
1) What comm radio is suggested? I have read about the round units, some
good some bad and have decided I would rather mount a standard radio under the
panel if possible.
2) What intercom? I have read conflicting reports on Vox actuated or not.
Also, I have found a couple of radios that have the intercom built in. Are
these suitable? And, I will convert my microphones to the Sigtronics High noise
model, M80H I believe.
3) Where does one mount the transponder in a CJ6 and what brand and model?
I am not opposed to used equipment and any help with my search is
appreciated.
Best Regards,
Phil Salter

The Becker round comms and transponders are excellent. I heard the
micro air units do not work very well in formation. The garmin base
transponder is an excellent buy.

Fellow YAKkers-
Anyone have any helpful hints or suggestions regarding replacement of the air
compressor on an M14P?
Personal experiences (however painful) are solicited...

Just got back from EAA Southwest Regionial Fly In in Hondo,
Texas........Weather marginal earlier in the day.....forcast was not so
great, either...... One Yak 52, one yak 50, one Yak 52TW. No CJ's at
all. Good crowd, considering iffy weather, nice airshow. Definately worth
the 2 1/2 drive to get there.....Marcus Bates, Jr., Austin, Texas area.

The Beckers are small and work great. A Garmin GPS/Com and Garmin Transponder also
work well. The Sigtronics SP400N is a good intercom and can be wired for
VOX and/or push to talk intercom. Any way you got it seems that unless you get
into the higher end coms you will need a 28 to 12 volt converter (DC/DC Converter)

I would recommend a good GPS/comm. The older Apollo units are hard to come by
so you may have to get Garmin.

I have used many intercoms in many airplanes. I have had the best luck with
intercoms from PS Engineering. They now have one that is either VOX or PTT. I
have not had trouble with a VOX-based PS Engineering intercom in the CJ6A if I
had good mics.

It depends on your panel layout.
As for brand, I like the Apollo SL-70 or the King KT-76A. I had a Garmin
GTX-320 in my CJ6A and it was nothing but trouble.

Brian
I've had a Garmin GTX 320 in my 52 since 2001 (or thereabouts). Never
had a problem with it. A friend is running one in his Commander and he's
never had a problem with it either.
On the other hand, the King unit he used to run was always failing the
transmitter tube. He went to the Garmin GTX 320 because it's solid state
with an excellent record of reliability.
