Barry - I'm at the C.A.F. Castle TRARON this weekend & you left your flight suit
in the briefing room last weekend. You also left your CJ & given that we were
short on a/c, we decided to let some of the newbies use it for practice. No
major problems other than the gear not coming down. Seems when that big 3 blade
prop hits the runway, it slows right down!
Your flight suit is in reasonably good shape, but they ran out of TP in the Men's
room and I can't be sure but it may have been used for "other than flight"
purposes. In any event, it's now in the cargo area of your CJ...use with caution.
Warmest regards,
Dave

Troops,
Just back from flying in the FPR airshow. My biggest hit of the week end?
Getting to ride in a real honest to God army tank. A Sheridan. One of these
sat in the town green in New Milford, Ct. where we lived for 27 years. Kids
(and I) use to climb all over it when they were little. Anyway I know NOW
that I really never wanted to be a 'tanker'. You're cooped up and can't see
worth a S**T!
There was a bunch of re enactors there, Germans and GIs. Craig Payne and
myself were dressed up like Folkwolves and made bombing runs on them. A P-51
made (or tried to) passes and I was gloriously shot down (I have smoke). I
don't who he was but he wasn't much of a showmen.
Gray Pope, Sam Sax, Fred Shefly, Craig Payne and myself gave a very
creditable formation show down in the weeds at our assigned altitude of 200' agl.
At
400' was the T-6 group (4) and the T-28 (4) were at 600'. At one point we
were doing head on passed with a PBY-5 Cat and Hu-16 Albatross. As Lead, this
is sweet to watch with the "Sea Pickles flight" (what the Cat and 16 called
themselves) down at 50' coming down the runway. These folks are a loose
bunch. I was told that they had a gal (well racked) flash the crowed from the
Cat's side blister on one fly though. Now I didn't see it or else there may
have 5 smoking holes along side the runway! Why the name "Sea Pickles"? May
have something to do with their male appendages. Something to do with either
size, shape or color - I don't know. :)
Anyway I had a great time. The show paid for our fuel, room, car; plus fed
us every day. Very well run show. I got to help Bill Lumley get his
acrobatic glider out the runway for his acro routine in the show and helped him
packed it up in its trailer afterwards. Bill and I learned to fly at the same
school down in Miami, 200 years ago. While in high school, I worked summers as
a lineboy at Mary Gaffany's flight school. Bill was a new instructor there
when I graduated and went to work there as a flight instructor. Soon after he
got a corp flying job and than ended up with DAL. That was 1959. We meet
each other for the first time since those early days. BOY! did the memories
flood back. We both still keep contact with our first boss, Mary, who must be
in her 80s and still flies. She and her husband have a Mooney.
Tomorrow at 0700 I'll be on an airline to CA. Will be spending 2 weeks
flying the B-24 for the Collings Foundation. If I don't respond please
understand I am having fun!
NO RETIREMENT MONEY, BUT I AM HAVING FUN !!.

Pappy,
Life is good when you have air under your ass! You are having to much fun
while the rest of us have to work for a living. I know somebody has to do
it. How about contacting me off line when you have a break.

Yeah, last year at the Camarillo Air Show got to ride on a fully
restored Half Track....one of the coolest things I've ever
done....don't know why, but it was just friggin' cool....definitely my
highlight of the weekend...except for seeing the kids eyes light up as
we waived to them from the car driving down the crowd line after our
flight...

Hi Dave,
I'm glad to know you're always looking out for me. ;) It's so
reassuring to know I have friends like you to watch my back.
Please tell me my CJ is not still on the ramp...it is supposed to be
hanging out in the alert hangers with it's big brothers L-39C, and
MiG-21.
BTW, my hangar is always open for ya if you head down the Chino way.
I'll make sure my "boyz" give you the extra special attention you most
certainly deserve....
Barry
