Nothing worse than coming home from flying stinking of diesel, it permutates worse than cigarete smoke, clothes skin, hair etc. Marcol 82 is used as a base for lots of cosmetics and is also known as "baby oil" labeled by johnson and johnson. Belive me airshow totty will always go for the "baby oil pilot" rather than the diesel pilot :>)) Its possible that the public will cotton onto the fact that diesel smoke is harmful to the enviroment so will try banning it, so if WE show were using non toxic oils it wont get banned, simple as that and why try getting lung cancer when it can be avoided very easily? Subject: RE: Converters
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Rob Rowe" <yak-list@robrowe.plus.com> Hi Bob, For what its worth ... from the electrical schematics; Front AH: - the smaller inverter PAG-1FP (left bank switch #3) provides 3 phase 36V 400HZ power to the front AH & rear turn & bank units - the 3 phase feeds are routed via a common terminal block "K20" (station 5 left side) - there are no AC fuses for PAG-1FP power feeds (unlike the bigger PT-200 inverter which has 11!) - there are a couple of relay contacts in the AC feed to the front AH (relay "n4" in station 6 relay box), triggered from rear cockpit "AH Fail" switch So ... assuming front AH unit is OK (from swapping it out with the rear unit); - check if rear T&B is working OK, if it is then the PAG-1FP inverter may not be the problem - if T&B OK then check connections to AH on K20 terminal block & check n4 relay condition to make sure it has not come loose / bad connections - if T&B not working then worth checking K20 terminal block connections anyway before condemning the PAG-1FP (do you have an AC voltmeter?) - I'm UK based so don't know of anyone who repairs inverters in the US (or UK for that matter) Gyro Switch: - the gyro compass unit requires both AC & DC power - PT-200 provides AC power feed (also to front T&B, rear AH, ADF [2 phase] & G limit audio tone) - left bank switch #8 provides the DC power feed & also operates a relay that connects the 3 phase AC to the gyro unit (via 3 off 2 amp fuses) Hope this is of some help ... Cheers, Rob YAK-52 G-YAKX -----Original Message----- Time: 10:29:38 AM PST US From: Bob Fitzpatrick <rmfitz@direcway.com> Subject: Yak-List: Converters --> Yak-List message posted by: Bob Fitzpatrick <rmfitz@direcway.com> Yakers, The AH in the front of my 52 has been going bad and GIB said the back was working fine so i switched them. The #2 AH (in front) started up fine but after some acro it failed also making me suspect the #1 converter. How do i confirm this and are the Russian converters repairable? Also noted the rear converter has to be on for the gyro compass to work even though it (gyro) has it's own switch. Is that right? ADF has been removed. TIA bob "Boris" 52BN

    From: "Dee L. Conger" <dee@ansatainc.com>
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Dee L. Conger" <dee@ansatainc.com> Has anyone come up with a nifty replacement for the corrosion-prone air tanks? Seems like they are getting harder and harder to come by, and are quite expensive. Seems like everyone is getting to the point where these are going bad. I'm looking into carbon fiber wrapped pressure vessels for my -50 - about the same weight as the Russian steel bottles, but 50% more volume. Is anyone else doing something similar? If this works for me, I might put together a retrofit kit if there is enough interest. Dee L. Its staying there until Tuesday, then off to Ottawa, then St Johns prior to heading out to Clifden, Connemara for some real Guinness. They hope to have a webcam on board, so we can see how the flight goes. http://www.vimy.org/home.html or http://www.vimy.org/newsandevents/projectupdates/index.html Steve Fosset will be flying it, and the navigator is using the old methods, none of those new-fangled GPS gadgets! --> Yak-List message posted by: Ernest Martinez <erniel29@gmail.com> I've just finished painting the fuselage on my CJ and I'm not happy with the paint match with the control surfaces which I opted not to paint due to my lack of knowledge with fabric. They were recently re-ceconited, and only have one coat of paint. Does anyone know of any adverse effects of painting over the existing paint of the control surfaces, mainly the elevators with respect to weight and flutter? I know that my Bonanza elevators are very sensitive to paint weight and could cause flutter. Do I have to completely strip my control surfacess or can I just apply a light coat of paint over the existing paint??? Thanks Ernie
