The folks that use the multiviscosity oil all use the Philips 25w-60. I personally use the 25w-60 and recommend it to all of my customers. Not a break to begin buy, actually Team Red began the performance at 500 ft over the top of the Star Flight who was at 300 ft by pulling the first show loop at the same time. This is probably the best unit on the market with internal GPS that will fix your position to within 110 yards, plus a whole host of other features. It's about the size of a cell phone... He put in an order for the Lancair group and still has a few left. He's selling these things at just above wholesale so now is the time to get one ($609 with shipping!). After my death defying trips over the Rockies and AZ, NV, and CA deserts, I'm not going to be without it again! Contact Dan directly at olsen25@comcast.net if you are interested.....don't wait long, he only has a few units left. From: "Jon Boede" --> Yak-List message posted by: "Jon Boede" We had 4 L-39s out at the show in Ada on Saturday... started with a photo pass in diamond and then extended the second element on downwind so that there wasn't so long a gap between passes. First pair kept it in fingertip, second pair went trail. Also, it was easier to wrap it up hard with just two and keep things in the infield. The thick black smoke yes, elt not likely. It would have been vaporized in the hole. Now, hopefully the ELT in your parachute harness and/or ejection seat will be activated with the ejection and draw the attention of the airliners passing overhead. That is assuming Barry is flying the L-39 over the Rockies of coarse. Any egress at over 200 kts tends to injure knees, hips, and shoulders from flailing. Would be hard to activate the personal locator beacon with dislocated shoulders. Also, with that burning composite stuff , need to move (as best you can) up wind from the fireball. Those carbon fibers are pretty rough on the lungs when inhaled (along with the other toxic chemicals in the epoxies used to laminate them). Now it is a little different with the ol' YAK/CJ. Unless you are going like a bat outa hell pure vertical down. Might have a chance to activate the ol' personel locator beacon. That's why I like my surplus PRC-90. It has an elt built in as well as it has the emergency two way radio so you can talk to the SAR birds overhead. The batteries last almost two weeks (used intermitantly). Now if you get the surplus survival vest to go with it, you have a really neat pocket just to put your prick (PRC) radio in. You can also put all your additional survival gear in like a thermal blanket, whistle, signal mirrow, signal flares, magnesium fire starter, spiro pin flares, fishing line, fish hooks, two 1 liter pouches of fresh water and even a place to put a pistol (Berreta 9mm or S&W .38). Oh, forgot the survival knife, water proof matches and water purifier tablets. It also fits under your parachute harness and will leave the aircraft with you (hence the name- vest) when you step over the side. Also, remember to save the used water pouchs after use, you can use them again with water purification pills to make that Giradia infested mountain stream water safe to drink. Well, maybe that is if that PETA tree hugging pinhead did not take a whiz or a dump upstream from the stream you are trying to get your water from on their nature hike thru the remote Rockies. If am going anywhere that involves being over desolate terrain, I wear my vest. It does get hot sometimes and hopefully the likelyhood of needing is minimal. But kinda like AMEX, don't leave home without it. Tomorrow, I'm off to the Atlantic side of Florida (Indian River Shores). I'll be gone for a few weeks. While I'm there it would be nice to find a YAK-52 pilot in the area that wouldn't mind trading a flight in Florida for one in California. I preffer the crank type for heavy 25w 60. i bought one at farm and fleet for about 59.00 it has been through 5 drums and still works perfectly. The McMillan FAMILY as a whole went way out of their way to make us comfortable. Joe Wilkins was the most considerate and professional "super-lead" anybody could ask for. I knew Joe would be a good lead after about 10 minutes of taxy-ing with him. He allowed his wingman plenty of room and time to maneuver. In the -50 this is important. That evening he asked me "if the taxi speed was ok?" . . sure was Joe, Thanks for thinking of it. The rest of the flights went just as well. Perfect weather. Great Yak friends. And the little bit of choppy winds that serves to unite everybody with a common enemy. Thanks to the Denver group for their hospitality. --------------------------- Thomas Johnson Airpower Insurance, LLC 36 West Ocotillo Road Phoenix, AZ 85013-1235 Tel: 602-628-2701 Fax: 623-321-5843 E: tomjohnson@cox.net P.S.
