--> Yak-List message posted by: Roger Kemp <viperdoc@mindspring.com> If you are going to play in that arena, suggest you get a round trip ticket and visit this facility. Might suggest you get an international attorney to help you draft a contract to deal with that company (not that that will always protect you in a foriegn country, but you atleast have something to take to the State Department to enlist the help of the US government). But as Doug Sap says, use someone in the US as your broker if you are buying this a/c for pleasure not trying to make a buck. No, I do not deal in eastern bloc a/c other than owning and flying on. Dennis Savarese at www.YAK-52.com operates his import business out of my hanger. Contact him if you have an interest in another YAK-52 for pleasure. I think you will be quite pleased with his product and support of that product. Doc -----Original Message----- From: Jim Bowerman <jbowerman@fastspot.net> Subject: Yak-List: DolfinAero --> Yak-List message posted by: "Jim Bowerman" <jbowerman@fastspot.net> Has anyone had any dealings with Dolfin Aero? Since selling my Yak 52 I have been looking at getting back into it. The prices out of the eastern countries look good, but I don=92t know how to do business =93safely=94 over there. Any suggestions? --> Yak-List message posted by: Mark Jefferies YAK UK Ltd <mark.j@yakuk.com> Jim, Doug has it about right but missed out mentioning legitimate importers from Europe.I send a/c to the USA, we also won best YAK at Osh a little while ago. Horror stories abound, even persons held "hostage" to try and force a purcahse thus securing there reliese. One company from Lithuana usually delivers 1 year late or like the last deal they did with new zealand no log books, the buyers had to travel 4 time to try and secure the documents im told, not cheap!! Be lucky and take care, or its beter to pay 5 or more K and be able to speak with the man that sold it to you. ie are you fluent in Russian and especialy the cultural ways? BR, MJ ps we have a container going to west coast very shortly. --> Yak-List message posted by: "Doug Sapp" <rvfltd@televar.com> Jim, Everyone knows the guys that are experts in the field of successfully importing foreign aircraft, they make their living at it, and have paid their dues over the years in deals gone bad and money lost. They have winnowed down the list of foreign players to a scant few that are trustworthy, men who do what they say they are going to do. These names are jealously guarded and for good reason. If you had spent the past 10 to 20 years importing foreign aircraft, cultivating associations with foreign vendors, would you cheerfully pass that information on to others so they could compete with you and possible make it harder for you to make a living? I think if you honestly ask yourself this question you will come up with the correct answer. The importers are a crucial part of our aviation community, and I would encourage you to support them, at least contact them and try to work out a deal within your price range. Again, my advice to you would be to support the system, use a reputable US based dealer who knows the ropes in the eastern bloc countries. Many importers will cut you a deal if they are dealing with 100% your money up front. I have brought in aircraft (from China) for $5K over cost, using 100% of the customers money. Look it as if it were insurance. If you go it alone you may or may not get what you pay for, or like a guy I know of who got nothing at all....for 50K! Right now I am strung out for 18K for engines from Russia that it looks like I will never get. Rather I get my money back is also looking questionable. As a importer, I have no choice but to shrug my shoulders and remember the name of that vendor, it's part of the cost of doing business in a foreign country. If you want his name I'll be happy to give it to you ;>) Go with the guys that do it for a living, support the system, everybody wins that way. By the way, At this time I do not import Yak 52's, only CJ6's and CJ5's and parts for the same. If you need a list of Yak 52 importers I'll be more than happy to give you what I have. Good luck. Always Yakin, Doug Sapp Best regards, Mark www.yakuk.com +44 (0)1767 651156 office +44 (0)7785 538 317 mobile

Steve You you guys give me a specific range on the minumum air pressure that should be required to extend and lock a nose gear actuator from a Yak-52 on the bench? Steve Steve, I know on the CJ-6 which has fairly close to the same system setup it's a "minimum" of 25 atmospheres for gear retraction. That's 25 x 14.5 = 362.5 lbs/sq. in. Now that is with gear weight attached. The actuator will move with less than that with no load. Correct me someone if I'm wrong. Jim "Pappy" Goolsby

--> Yak-List message posted by: "Cory Emberson" <bootless@earthlink.net> Hi Ernie, I'm in the middle of a field test for just that thing for Kitplanes magazine. Is your glass hazt, scratched, or both? Are the scratches, if any, deep? A few of the products I've tested are: Flitz, Plexicoat by Aeroshell, Scratch-off, Micro-Mesh (labor intensive), and Novus (three levels of intensity). The self-diminishing creams, such as Plexicoat, Flitz, and Novus start off with a more aggressive abrasive, and diminish into a less aggressive action as the recondition continues, in the same manner that Micro-mesh does with the finer and finer sandpaper grades. One sneak preview you you - the experts in the field stress that you should *not* apply the creams in a circular motion ... They should be applied in a straight line, in the direction of the relative wind/airflow. The circular application will make any imperfections in the glass more apparent when you fly into the sun, and make it very difficult to see traffic, the field, etc. Hope that helps!
