Yes they do, but what kinds of problems "common" to our round engines are most
likely to be caught that are unique to a given cylinder?
- Open intake drains, 4,5&6 run higher EGT. We all leave the tap open from time
to time. Usually no ill effects if the drain holes are only large enough to drain
a little oil. After enough times, one develops a "feel" for what's going
on.
- Misfiring cylinder due to either fouled plug or moisture in the harness. For
a fraction of the instrument cost, the entire plug/harness can be changed to someting
more reliable.
- Loose intake tubes. EGT's and CHT's run erractic on those cylinders.
- Mag problem. My Horizon tach does a good job of identifying the weak/dying/dead
mag for far less money.
- Weak cylinder due to worn rings/valves. etc. Yep, but a compression check helps
too.
- Weak cylinder due to mis-adjusted valves. Same as above. Check 'em regular anyway.
That being said, I'm waiting on the new generation of EIS systems for experimentals
to make an affordable setup for the 9 cyl.

Hell, why buy that GPS?? The position of the sun, and a $20 sextant
can tell you where you are. Plus if you fly low enough, you can read
the road signs.
Oil pressure guage??? Why spend the money and incurr the weight
penalty? Just listen real carefully, that banging sound will clue you
in that you're not getting enough lubrication.
I never read my temp guages, I fly barefooted, I can "Feel" the
increase in heat through the firewall.
I dont wear Nomex either, I just drink 3 gallons of water before any
flight and tie wrap my winkie shut. I keep a pair of dykes, tethered
to one of my testicles, in case of fire I cut the tie wrap and just
douse the flames with my urine.
Who needs a turn co-ordinator? A piece of string on the windshield works nicely.
Brakes?????? Need I say more.

Well, damned! Guess I started another pissing match! First its "Offended
over a sole," now it's over a 9 cylinder CHT gauge.What's a YAKKER to
do...I know SHUTUP!
Oh, Ernie...a Texas condom catheter hooked to a leg bag would be alot less
uncomfortable. You would still have access to that stored up piss to
extenguish any inflight fires you might encounter while flying bare-assed,
bare footed and blind. That way you do not risk injury to the thinking head
in this fight (the little one) with those dykes.I would hate to see a man
cut his head off to spite a nut!

Good luck, my friend. Many people have had poor list etiquette when it
comes to paring down their responses as a consideration to others.
They either don't care, or don't know any better.... or just like to
annoy you. ;) Several of us have requested that people use common list
courtesy when replying to posts, but it simply has never done any good.
As far as "off topic" posts. I for one, agree that this is not only an
aircraft forum, but a social forum where lots of friend from all over
the country gather in a "virtual hangar" of sorts. If we were all at a
hangar party and a topic came up that you didn't like, you'd just walk
away, right? Or would you sit there and tell them "this is a hangar
party and this topic is inappropriate"? I think you'd just walk
away...which is the same option your keyboard gives you with the delete
key...
Happy flying....

Barry,
There is one thing to make off topic comments, its another to use this
list as a pulpit to spew ones radical political or religious beliefs.
Multi page diatribes espounding one persons ideology is a bit more
than a comment. I prefer to adhere to the principle of not talking
about relgion or politics in mixed company.
Theres a lot of harmless banter on this list that offends no one and
is usually humorous, but one has to draw the line between off topic
conversation, and extremist views which serve no good purpose but to
divide people who otherwise share a common interest which is
airplanes.
I have my views on all the topics here, but I keep them to myself or
share them with people "I Know" give a rats ass about my views and
what I think. I'm sure that my political or religious views would most
certainly offend many people here and since I probably only know a
tiny fraction of the people who subscribe to this list, I feel that
such commentary would be inappropriate.
Your analogy to a conversation at a hangar party would only be
accurate if the offending person stood up on a chair with a megaphone
so everyone heard it and had to walk away.
But what usually happens here is that someone else with an opposing
view gets on their own chair and starts countering with their own
megaphone.
Great way to end a good party!

Troops,
Plans are starting to coleus for OSH as far as arrivals are concerned. EAA
wants the warbirds to arrive all at the same time, at the time they normally
fly during the show.
Unless changed, Monday the 25th we will arrive over head OSH at precisely
14:35:00 hours for the "quadruple cross". This will be different in that ALL
formation group will be from four deferent departure points.
Most likely (the plan) we will follow the T-6 group in for the landing,
followed by the T-34s and than T-28s. It behooves us to be ready early Monday
morning.
Also, RedStar may be involved in a very special memorial formation.
I was approached for a plan and offered the RedStar pilot group for these
very special memorial formations. These are VERY tentative plans right now
because of the lost of some major performer last week EAA is feeling the lost
in
their schedule. I hope you will agree that we need to support our fellow
aviators at this point.
It looks like OSH 2005 is going to be a very interesting year for all of us.
Again.
