Any of you Yak 55 guys out there? I'm thinking about a 55, but I can't find
much information about them. I was wondering if they have any big "service
bulletins" like the 52 that I need to watch out for. 59 and 60 type stuff.
How about flying qualities? It's hard to drop that much cash on an airplane
that nobody will let you test fly, what if I buy the thing and find out they
fly like a truck? Sergei Boriak says it's the best airplane this side of an SU
31,so I guess that it's a risk I might be willing to make.
Thanks

I will be leaving Thiensville on Sat AM, arriving MTW about 9ish.
The Taurus has enough fuel to make the trip non-stop :-D
I remember the days of YAK-52 flying, climb out to attitude, count to
six (slowly if there was a tailwind), start decent for fuel. Repeat as
needed.

Attention All RPA Members:
As many of you prepare for Oshkosh We want to remind you that the South
Central Regional Fly-In is just around the corner. The dates for this event are
September 21 - 25. We are planning to hold a FAST Clinic along with some other
fun events. The clinic will be held in Lamar, CO KLAA. Last year the event
was attended by 15 members. We are hoping to double the attendance this year.
Your participation is welcome.
We have openings for several key positions at this year's event. Because of
the nature of these positions your flying will be limited. If anyone is
willing to step forward and fill these positions we will waive your $75
participation fee and buy your dinner at the Saturday Banquet.
The following positions are available.
Airboss (1)
Responsible for the overall safe conduct of the events flying
activities. Facilitates the daily
safety briefing and manages the flight schedule in coordination with the
TSC.
Training and Scheduling Coordinator (1)
Responsible for the scheduling of all flights. Works closely with the
airboss to assure that
all participants are afforded an equal opportunity to train and fly.
Works with the
Instructors and check pilots to make sure that all training is
accomplished on a priority
basis.
FAST Records Coordinator (1)
Responsible for all membership and training records. Verifies required
documentation and
manages the flow of records to both RPA membership and the RPA FAST
Records
Coordinator.
In addition to these 3 positions we are looking for approved and qualified
FAST instructors and check pilots to assist with the training and checking of
new and upgrading FAST pilots.
If you are interested in any of these positions please contact the SC
Coordinator as soon as possible.

Hey All,
This link was forwarded by a fellow on another list. It's a trailer for the
new flying movie, One Six Right. If the movie is anything like the trailer,
these guys get what flying is all about. The trailer is a large file but
even if you only have dial-up access, it's well worth the wait. Some very
cool stuff. Note the finish on the two warbirds... no further proof needed
that these film-makers are studs and studettes. Also, recognize the smiling
pilot of the DC-3? :)

If you go to the NTSB web site you can find another reason a Yak or CJ can have
an uneven fuel burn.
It is an interesting read.
Go to www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/query.asp .
Then select monthly list. then June 21,
then Full Narrative.
Informative.

Thanks Terry for the link. I read the report completely and found only one
minor flaw. The header tank mentioned in the report only holds 5.5 liters,
not 11+ gallons. I'm sure they meant the right main tank though. FWIW,
this problem with aftermarket hoses is not uncommon. A word to the
wise.......

To all,
I second that. If the whole film is as good as the Trailer, then these
producers really do get it. We know how much the fun flying can be. Maybe
they will bring that message to the general public without all the
Hollywood BS.

I have recently seen this problem crop up in a CJ6A as well. Clearly people
are not checking hoses assembled in the field for proper assembly and flow.
This seems to be a relatively consistent thread and problem.

CJ-6A leaving Friday 22nd from El Paso (T27). Might stay parked OSH vs. MTW
(non-FAST pilot); but another Red Star airplane there nonetheless. 1280
statue miles, great circle, 2 fuel stops.
Do most Nanchangs use the warbird arrival procedure or the Ripon/Fisk
standard?
