Troops,
I'm not into forwarding stuff not germane to this list but this sounds like
a wise idea.

It really could help the emergency services in doing their job. For

Jim, why fuss with a bunch of 90 knot airplanes, many of which don't
have a clue and haven't seen that much traffic since they were in rush
hour on the 5 just south of LA on a Friday afternoon?
Doesn't mean the hold over warbird island will be without any tense
moments, but it should reduce them significantly....and I'd rather try
to avoid traffic at 135 kts. than 90 any day. FWIW....
Looking forward to seeing you there!
Cheers,
Barry

Yakkers,
To all those YAK/CJ drivers that have not made a Hotel reservation but are planning
on coming to the Red Air Fall Fling, the St. James Hotel is full. All the
reservations for the St. James are taken. The alternate motel is The Jameson
Inn. Contact them @ 334-874-8600. Ask for the rooms reserved for the Red Air Fall
Fling. The dates for the Fly-in (just in case you forgot) are 14-16 OCT 05.
If there is enough interest in a full up FAST clinic, then we will open it
up to begin the afternoon/evening of the 13th for ground school. I just need feedback
from the attendes as to what their needs are.

Jay Hodge asked about Yak-55.
For Service Bulletins, the Yak-55 has one major one on the fuselage/engine mount,
but I would be almost certain that all the West have been modified. Nothing
else of real significance.
For flying qualities, it won the World Aerobatic Championship; has either won or
come in the top two or three in most Advanced World Championships =96 can there
be any question of it not flying well!

Subject: | RPA Update - West Coast |
--> Yak-List message posted by: Barry Hancock <barry@flyredstar.org>
Gang,
I am writing this email to update you on what is happening with your
RedStar Pilots Association.
Over the past 3 years the association has undergone a complete
renovation. It has not been without its growing pains, but much
progress has been made. Here are a few of the highlights:
-Structure. Establishment of Regional Coordinators positions to
organize events and promote local leadership. This has lead to an over
200% increase in events nationwide. In the West we have gone from 1
annual event to 6.
-Online resource. Over 70 useful documents are now online and
available for download. Everything from FAST and transition training
documents, to how to organize a local event, to what to bring to an air
show is all there. Also now available online are the online store,
event registration, membership renewal, and the RPA Hangar Talk and
quarterly newsletter. The web design has admittedly had it's rough
spots, but Deon is continuing to iron out the problems and make the
site user friendly.
-Training. Association supported "Warbird Transition Training"
programs. This will help reduce mishaps and keep our insurance rates
down. Events and event participation is at an all-time high.
-FAST. Our FAST program and manual is now being adopted as the
standard in the warbird community. A new FAST "Instructor" program has
been established to further enhance and standardize the quality of
formation training in the association.
- Political power. Through an organized and professional effort, the
RPA successfully lobbied with insurance companies to convince
underwriters to continue to insure our aircraft after a rash of claims
in 2004.
The association has come a long way, but will continue to grow only
with your support. If you are a current member, you can be proud of
what is quickly becoming the high water mark in the warbird
community...a goal we are actively pursuing. If you have been away
awhile, I urge you to re-activate your membership and be a part of this
exciting growth in our organization. When it's all said and done, It's
members like you that make this association great!
Finally, elections are coming up and we have an opportunity to have
some real talent from our region join the RPA Board of Directors.
Byron Fox, Dave King, and Gordon Witter are all active members who
bring a wealth of aviation and business experience to the table. I
encourage you to vote. I am confident that all three candidates will
give sound counsel and guidance to your association and take an active
interest in serving you.
I hope you are having a great flying season and I hope to see you all
soon!
Cheers,
Barry

Most of you are aware of out RPA pitot tube cover
( see http://www.flyredstar.org/StoreCSVS/default.aspx)
Viperdoc has suggested that we create a similar flag to slip over your prop
blade to keep errant air show attendees at bay. Obviously it would be made to
slip on Y52, CJ and other blades. Please raise your hand if you would be
interested.
Thanks, Blitz

Gang,
I'm trying to decide when to leave for OSH. If anyone is heading that
way from west of OSH, let me know when you're planning to arrive and we
can try to hook up en route....
Thanks!
