Dennis, i do know that the inner tank bays have been converted to wet wing, I dont
know how succesfull but I'm sure it works well.
Keep the list advised, Im sure your onto a winner.
BTW, as of 3rd July there were 671 YAK 52 registered in the west. This is the reason
they are getting difficult to obtain in FSU now. 1800 Made but what is the
attritian? I would suggest a fair number. Then there are the ones that the
military realy still need.

Mark,
I am presently working with a fuel bladder manufacturer to build a
replacement for the existing metal fuel tanks only using the existing fuel
bay. Although that may not seem like a practical solution to additional
fuel, it really meets the overall needs of most Yak 52 owners. The initial
estimate is we can gain about 25-30 liters per side, thus giving us about 1
additional hour of fuel on board. If this can be done, it will be a very
popular modification since most of the Yak 52 owners have said, "If I only
could get 1 more hour of fuel on board, I would be a very happy person".
Flying the 52 for 2.5 hours and still have 30 minutes of fuel on board would
be more than satisfactory.
Dennis
Best regards, Mark

Of the ones I've seen the tank bays converted to wet wing tanks, they all
leak. That's the reason for pursuing a fuel bladder for the same cavity.
If the bladder can fit snugly into the cavity, I see no reason why we can't
get 20-30 liters additional fuel per side by just taking up the unused
space.
As for availability of 52's, you're right, they ARE getting harder to come
by. AND the prices are going up and will keep going up because of that.
Anyone selling their airplane cheap, at least in my opinion, is leaving
money on the table. The 52 is clearly the best bang for the buck on the
market. Heck, look at the price of Yak 50's and how they have appreciated.
No question about it, attrition has consumed a fair number of airplanes.
How many, I have no idea. And the Russian military will be consuming
another hundred or so, thus making the good airplanes even more scarce.
FWIW,
Dennis

Dennis and Mark,
We installed auxiliary fuel on a Yak 52 in the form of 3 rubber
bladders per wing, 6 years ago. This was in addition to the main fuel
tanks. As I recall the cost of the modifcation was approximately $8K
and almost doubled the fuel capacity. No problems.
Regards,
Jill Gernetzke

Yaksters,
Looking for anyone who has any info or experience setting up an LLC for an
airplane partnership. That appears to be the way to go to limit personal liability.
Would appreciate any recommendations or solutions to help administer a
partnership.
Currently four of us in on a CJ with a loan outstanding. The loan is in one
of our names at this time.
Thanks.

Do a google search on LLC corps. You'll probably get a zillion hits.

I would recommend you invest in a call to aviation
attorney Alan Armstrong in Atlanta, Ga. (770-451-0313)
He does a lot of work in airplane partnerships and
related topics. Even if you don't use him to help set
up your LLC he can give you good advice. Alan flies
the japanese Kate replica that was in so many WWII
movies. Tell him I sent you.
