I am amazed that owners are replacing fabric surfaces with metal. There are relatively
minor reasons not to - such as ribs being made of too thin metal to properly
rivet, but the fundamental reason must be the unacceptability of non-aviation
designers making unofficial modifications on control surfaces.
Recently the owner of an I-3 aircraft decided that his ailerons were too light,
and so removed the aileron spades/compensators. They are there to lighten aileron
loads, but ALSO provide the mass-balance for the ailerons. Without them,
the aeroplane tore itself apart in the air killing both occupants.
It seems to me that there is more than enough that can go wrong with flying/aerobatics
without stacking the odds against oneself.

I failed to mention that metal control surfaces are an *option* for our
aircraft. We also have beautifully finished fabric controls available.

Ira,
Talk to Dennis Savarese about this. He has a fix for the transmit button
not engaging the contacts to transmit. Do you find that if you rock the
switch around that you can get it to transmit occ.before it completely
failed? If so spraying a contact drying agent into the switch base or
drilling a small hole in the center of transmit button and then spraying it
down with the drying agent. Dennis has the specifics. I loosened both
screws holding the switch in and slide up enough to spray down around the
base. That was enough to fix my problem.
But to answer your question, no I do not have an extra switch. Contact
Dennis Savarese @ DSavarese@elmore.rr.com.

Rich,
I think everyone wants to get away from the paint cracking off the upper
left surface of the fabric rudder (p factor/ prop induced harmonic beating
on the rudder fabric) The same is going to happen with the metal. But I
personally am living with touch up paint every now an then.

Used to be plain ol "Doc", but others wish to share that call sign
too,so... Actually, there can and are more than one Doc out there. But to
avoid confusion, I'll use my other tactical call sign. OBTW, there are
about 5 Viperdocs out there also.

Guys, I don't have a 52 here to compare the CJ PTT switch to but I do carry
PTT switches for the CJ in my stock. If some one sends me a photo and some
simple measurements of the 52 PTT switch, I'll check it out.
Always Yakin,

Pappy,
How are you making out with your EFIS Sport? The reason I ask, is that
a friend here, is having a hell of a time with his EFIS 1, bad
documentation, wrong specs, things flat dont work, etc.

During MTW/OSH, the subject of M-14P engine availability came up. George Coy told
me that Aerostar had about 25 more new ones that they could build up. Terminus
in also had a limited quantity.
However, while arranging for my freshly OH'd M-14P to be shipped from Vladimirs
place, I mentioned what I'd heard. Vladimir says that the Russian factory is
still making them as well as OH. He has 4 in OH now, available in about 6 months
if anyone is interested. If anyone needs an engine overhaul, Vlad will arrange
another batch, but it won't be as cheap as the last batch.

Dear Friends,
Today, in Tulsa, Oklahoma we celebrated the life of Rodger Modglin. My
friend.
If you have not already, please take a moment to visit our website and
view the tribute to Rodger at www.teamredwarbirds.com . You can view
the
video tribute by clicking on the cover photo.
Also, please take a moment to sign the guestbook, the family is
reading
the comments from visitors and it is really helping them get through
these tough times. Thank you so much if you have already done so.
We will celebrate a final time in Ava, IL on Saturday July 30 at 3:00
PM. A number of our fellow friends and aviators have expressed an
interest in attending. RPA friends will fly the missing man formation.
The details are that all will be flying into Carbondale/Murphysboro,
KMDH. We are making arrangements for rooms and transportation for
many,
so if you need assistance, feel free to call Zoe at 620-235-1000.
Pilots will celebrate Rodger's life at the services wearing their
flight suits, as is Rodger.
Saturday evening plans are still being firmed, but please plan to
attend if you can.
Godspeed,
Terry "Pumper" Calloway

Craig and all,
Looks like everyone is worried abut the engine availability issue. I also
just closed a deal for M14P's. The first engine will be here in about 30
days. Engines are fresh overhauls with all logs since birth. Price on this
first one will be:
As is with no guarantees $14,500
25 hour or 6 months warrantee $15,250
50 hour or 6 months warrantee $16,000
Details by phone or off list.
Always Yakin,
