I just spoke to the organizer and there are a few Yaks scheduled to be there and a few more would be great! A few CJs would be OK too. Progress is being made but the going is slow. As of this writing I still do not have a scrap 52 bottle. Anyone out there that has a N/G 52 bottle please contact me off list. Having someone modify brackets/system to use standard scuba/air bottles. That makes the modification easy and replacing standard bottles later very cheap. The organizer is named Tom Petersen and he can provide show fuel and a room at a local Casino Hotel and would like some YAks and such. Wendover was where they worked up the B-29's for the atomic bomb raids and it's cool, although a very stark place. You can roar around the desert over the old ranges and target areas. Very cool. How many times have we done the same sort of "tail chase" or gentlemen's acro while in trail without a full briefing or understanding of the capabilities or desires of our wingmen? I have been scared "nearly to death" by this kind of thing and I think this is a good time to reaffirm our commitment to safety. I could be wrong, but I would bet that this impromptu tail chase was not briefed (as it was done while they were holding to do a flyover at OSH), and I don't know what #4 thought about formation acro. (A simple roll may not be so simple if three split S's out and #4's attention gets diverted from flying his plane to watching #3. Especially if he's not a proficient acro pilot.) I had heard at OSH that everyone thought #4 must have just been incapacitated as they lost him on a rejoin. From the eyewitness report, it looks like something else entirely. Think about it. If you are uncomfortable in a tail chase...SAY SO! Call Knock it off and fly your own plane the way you want to (right side up is OK). Peer pressure can lead to disasterous results. Respectfully, Walt Fricke Walter Lannon wrote: --> Yak-List message posted by: "Walter Lannon" Go to http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/query.asp.
