Subject: | Exhaust seal test. |
--> Yak-List message posted by: cjpilot710@aol.com
I ran up my M-14p with the different exhaust joint seal.
I can tell you right away that "Walker acousti/seal #35959" (from NAPA)
don't work. At least not the way I applied it. This a black tar like paste that
needs to dry for 24 hours. Yesterday I applied it around the joint than put
a stainless steel strip wrapped around the gap and than clamped it down. It
didn't last one minute.
All the other seals seem to be doing OK (tight) except for one that has a
slight leak. This is one with muffler tape wrapped right around the gap, then
a stainless steel strip over it and clamped down.
I'll keep track of the others for a while.
After I get back from MA this week end, I plan on resealing that leaky joint
using one of the other methods and than doing a CO flight test using the
same data points.

Never ask binary questions in jest... the answer to this below question
is, of course, "Yes".
I am just coming up on 1,100 hours and I need my third set of tires Really
Soon Now. So I'll believe that somebody can get 400 hours on a set of
Desser tires.

Thank You Mr. Gabbard. You are correct.... Desser tires are the best that
money can buy! And someday pigs will fly too. I'm sick and "tired" of always
ordering and changing my "superior" Desser tires. The engineers at Desser
know full well what it takes to make a tire last but they won't do it. Ask
yourself WHY?

Get the Russian tire. In the words of a fellow YAK-LIST poster "they're
hell-bent-for-leather-strong".
Literally, I was getting sick and tired of changing my tires all the time.
I'd be glad to pay twice as much if they lasted three times as long. Someone
needs to convince Desser to use a better formulation.
We got heavier airplanes that land a little faster than your normal spam-can
so we need tires with a little more sturdy formulation. Someone needs to get
that thru the head of the owner of Desser!

The only way to compare these two tires FARILY is subject them to the same
conditions and importantly the same cycles. I don't know of anyone who has
done that. Yes you can compare what has happened on you airplane BUT only
if
your mod of operation didn't change and every landing was exactly the same.
Personally I've had a little better ware with Desser BUT their tubes stink
in the way they set the valve stem. However if the price was right I'd buy
a
Russian tire. I operate off a grass strip and about half my takeoffs and
landings are on pavement.

Check out and download Google Earth. http://earth.google.com
It's one hell of a neat program to explore our earth with. You can even see

Ok Ok Ok, now I see a bet coming down the pike.
If you are saying that the Russian or Chinese tires last longer than the
Desser tires on Concrete or pavement. I am ready to place the bet.......
Desser tires or better yet their Re-caps last longer than the Russian rubber
and have the Russian documents that show they make a softer tire for a reason.
GRASS does not need HARD tires and the Russian wanted to compounds to be soft
for better friction or grabbing power on grass.
TAKE THE BET. You will lose but TAKE THE BET!!!!
If someone can make a better tire than Desser.....then do it and we will buy
from you. If not shut up and move on. This group acts like a two year old
sometimes.....Bitch about higher gas than f'en tires. Buy Desser recaps and
don't touch them for 150 hours of flight PERIOD.
Hope the kids in the back read and hear this.

Do you have any more of the Russian tires for my 52? I'd like to order two
complete sets as the Russian ones I got from you are still going strong
and
lasting two-three times as long as the Desser tires.
Let's face it guys, the Desser tires are way to friggin' soft and wear
out
too friggin fast. Let's give our bidness to the Russians...........
HMMMMMM? I got 65,000 miles on my automotive tires and their still
going
strong. I got maybe 40-50 landings on my old Desser tires and their
history.
Trust me...the formulation of Desser rubber sucks!
<BR
> Thanks
Frank

Interesting: I have over 400 hours on my Desser Tires, and they have a lot
of tread left... Gary G.
