Dear Yak Persons,
I learned recently that a Yak 55M (N1003G) came to grief in a forced
landing in July of '05. Fortunately, the pilot was uninjured. The
airplane, however, was substantially damaged. I am interested in speaking
to the owner of the airplane. Has anyone any suggestions for me?
Many Thanks,
Ben

Yeah, but what does that have to do with how many times you can recap a nose

Subject: | Re: Yak 55M starting air valve...cont...cont! |
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Ron Spencer" <splitimage.wing@verizon.net>
Well, went out and bought a new SV08-21 solenoid valve...this created an
interesting turn of events...
My understanding of the sytem after conferring with my mech is that :
A - compressor connects to a 'T", B - Airbottle connects to other side of
the "T"
In turn the "bottom" of the "T" connects to a hydaforce block
(SV08-21-2P-A-2415)
One side of the block has the SV08-21 solenoid valve screwed into it.
Another side has the connector which distributes the air to the starting
manifold and distribution system to the cylinders...
Ok...so it appears simple...when the solenoid valve is "energized" it opens
allowing stored system pressure air to flow to the air start manifold...
This would assume that the valve is NORMALLY CLOSED, and electrically
OPENED...
However, the SV08-21 valve appears to operate in the exact
reverse...NORMALLY OPEN, electrically CLOSED!
This defies the logic of the above!!! Help!
Obviously this western mod (as the Russian manuals do not show these parts)
has a key element to the process we are missing.
Background...
Recall the problem was that the air system was bleeding down. We pumped up
the air system ball container, and isolated it from the solenoid valve,
resulting in the system retaining air pressure down stream, (bottle,
overpressure release, air lines from the fuselage servicing and pressure
gauge)just fine. This is how we determined (guessed) that it may be the
solenoid valve that was sticking. When the old valve was checked it
appeared to be normally closed and electrically opened - and that it was not
fully closing due to wear and obvious tear...therefore leaking stored air
system pressure. Thought the problem would be solved wiht a new valve...but
as stated this seems to work in reverse of the desired operation.
Anybody have any input which would make sense out of this? Does anybody
know a mechanic that is expereinced with the Yak55M/ Vedneyev air bottle
start system that has been "westernized"?
Thanks in advance -rs-

Sears is out of stock of the IR temp gun on their online store. I bought
the Craftsman pistol unit new in box on eBay for $60 ($20 lower than Sears
including shipping). There are gobs of different IR Thermometers on eBay
(including Fluke).
Here is a $49.00 model:

Ron,
My system used to loose air over time and it was debugged and solved by
Cliff Coy up at Gesoco during the last conidition inspection, doesnt loose
any air now, even if left for months at a time the pressure wont drop at all
(knock on wood). The system as I remember had a bad check valve in the line
which is part of the external auxilliary air filling system which fills via
scuba fitting. I think Yak 55's didnt have the air system at all so they
were added by others. My system was also missing a check valve up front
near the snot valve as well so the system would leak backwards thru the
compressor during down times. I'm probably stating the obvious but you may
want to consider talking to either Cliff or George Coy to see if they can
help, they've obviously dealt with the system in the past. Jill and Carl
Hays would be another source of info.

Saw the following ad for a 52 on the Barnstormer's (
http://www.barnstormers.com )website. Couldn't believe the low price but
then it does have the 5G spar. Anyone know about the history of this plane?
YAK 52 . $35,000 . FOR SALE . 1981 yak 52 1082 tt 550 smoh has u.s.
registration but no u.s. airworthiness. 5G spar. The last things needed is
weight and balance paperwork . prop resealed, I already have seals and
manual, have a A.M.P give it one last look over and call faa. Its has new
tires, brake pads, B and C alternator.Still has air start, air brakes, air
gear and air flaps . Suba tank comes with it. I still have fuselage skid and
wing stands so come with a 24' box truck (it all fits in there thats what I
used) or a flat bed and I'll help load her up. It has no radio's or horizon.
