Tim, I think weight is the reason. On the YAK 50 these is approx 5 x 7 meters of
6mm rigid pipe. 35M of flex pipe is very heavy.
On the YAK 50 you will find it starts leaking at approx `8-22 years old. The ally
pipe from Ashenyev was "crap" lots of impurities that over time corrode the
pipe from within. Once you fix one pipe the next leaks, the slightest disturbance
will made the pipe leak.
Its critical for anyone buying a YAK 50 from OH to get the pipes changed, if not
your in for a lot of expense. Those pipes under the floor associated with the
brake system require fuel tank removal, rudder pedal removal and its still extremely
difficult job. Then there are the wing one, not so difficult but still
very "enjoyable" :>))
We replace with cunifer material, never a problem again we expect.
400hp Y50 with MTV -29 climb @ 160 kph (established) (just a number) is 2700ft
for the first minute at 82%. Cheap performance, I would say.
have fun, cya mj

Indeed it is, but not here in Central Florida since we don't do no stinking winter!
Of course mine Frau also bitched about the cold back there...and the fumes.
Perfect excuse to justify the cost of the heat muff and plumbing, as well as
a new exhaust, EFIS, paint job, etc :>)
Sealing up the rear cockpit cowling and floor will really help the infiltration
of cold air from the aft fuselage and floor. However, I believe that the fuselage
needs venting also which would help rid exhaust fumes and relieve some of
the pressurization that cause the cold air to move into the rear cockpit.
To this end I have installed rear cockpit skirt seals, made new vented panels aft,
added 3" to the exhaust stacks, faired with aerodynamic "fangs". Pics to be
posted soon.

A wonderful source for all things pneumatic and hydraulic.
Not the cheapest parts available by any means.
I use an SS-43S4-A as my main air valve.
They have Metric to 1/4" Tube adapters also (SS-6MO-6-4 or SS-400-6)
Their tube fittings don't require any swaging, its all magic.
If you are looking for an inexpensive solution, this is not it.
The only benefit is the parts last forever, look cool, don't leak and work
better.

the rear cockpit floor which has dramatically reduced draftiness. If you would,

I have just had a sneak peak at the ARS 2005 trailer...I will simply
say the DVD is gonna be well worth the wait! Cynthia and crew are
working through literally over 100 hours of raw video footage and
putting together an absolutely first rate DVD. The trailer will be
available for viewing soon and I'll let you know the minute it goes
public....the DVD will follow shortly thereafter...
This is gonna be the best ever video produced showcasing these aircraft!

No comment was forth coming. At least your bride will get in your
back seat. Yes winters are a bit cooler here in NH, but even benign
winters can be cold at 7-10,000' without double layers of long
underwear etc. BTW if any one knows where I can get a insulated

I agree. You said when you said we need "ONE" home. Not a BBS where we are

Folks,
I too had plans to re-invent the wheel with "another" forum but scrapped it
pretty early on. I did not want to add to the growing mix. My intent was to
gather all the information and experience here into one EASY place for those
that own these airplanes and those that are interested in them. This list is
a fantastic place for some of that but it is not very user friendly. I
honestly don't think this group would survive without some sort of place to
go. I think it would benefit us all to find ONE place to post and share. Gus
has a good thing and so does the "YPA". I think we need to find a new
"easier" home in either place..
Just my thoughts..

The chief advantage of the aluminum air lines is their light weight and low
cost. There is no technical reason you couldn't go with, say, stainless
steel over braided lines everywhere. In some areas they may actually be an
advantage. Like from the wing to the brakes and from the firewall to the
engine.

Subject: | Photo Posting Enabled on Yak-List... |
Yak-Listers,
As of this morning, I have enabled limited posting of various picture
formats to the Yak-List. Extensions allowed include: jpg, gif, bmp,
txt, xls, pdf, and doc. Generally, these are all pretty safe and
don't carry viruses of any kind.
A word of caution when posting pictures, however. Double check the
size of the pictures you are posting. This includes both the picture
dimensions (X x Y) but also the total filesize (MB). If you take
pictures right out of your digital camera, it is likely they will be
on the order of 1-4MB each. If you post 10, 3MB photos to the List,
you will be sending 30MB plus encoding (usually a 1.5x gain in size)
to the list, that will have to be redistributed to all members on the
list. That can be a lot of data!
Use a program like Photoshop to reduce the dimensions of the photo to
something on the order of 640x480 and use medium or better
compression when saving the file so that each picture is roughly 50k
to 100k in size.
Let me know what you think of this addition to the
Yak-List. Remember that the PhotoShare is also still available and
generally the best way to share photos of an archival nature.
I am always interested in suggestions from members on how to make the
Lists better. If you have an idea, please drop me an email. One
thing I have been looking for is a software package that would afford
both the PHP-style frontend that people seem to be gravitating to,
but also use Majordomo-style backend so that I could provide both
kinds of interfaces on a common set of data. If someone knows of
this type of package, please send me a pointer.
Best regards,

Now when that shorts out..well its gonna be a zapper on your crapper for sure!
Go to your local hunting store. There is so much stuff out there for keeping you warm while hanging on the side of tree in a Nebraska blizzard that a Witch with a brass brazzier would be happy. Go to WWW.Redhead.com or www.Cabellas.com for all the really warm winter gear that is on the market. Does not have to be in cammo so that the tree huggers don't get upset at you walking across the ramp in your thermal holofill jumpsuit. That way they will not think you are about to go out and straff a helpless mountain lion, grizzley bear, or God forbid Bambie' father. While at it get some wicking thermal underware.

Yak Listers,
Here is a really cool tool for resizing those unruly images from your
digital camera. Its off the Microsoft website, so its probably safe
to download and run.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe
Run the installer. Once it finishes, you'll then be able to select
any image file or group of image files, RIGHT CLICK, and select
"Resize Pictures". A little dialog box will pop up and prompt for
the resize size you wish. It will then create a copy of each image,
scaled to your requirements and compressed to a nice level. Does a
great job and images look really good.
2 thumbs up!
