I did figure it all out yesterday. My mag timing is right on. After studying the air distributor more closely we found that there are actually 2 slots and you must time with the smaller slot closer to the center and the other slot sends air to the bottom cylinders to purge them - I would guess an anti-hydro lock function. Fired right up after only moving about 1 blade width. Just FYI for anybody with an MT prop we had another guy up here with a brand new MT (equipped with reverse) crash his Moose and totally destroy it after it inadvertently went into reverse in flight. Both people walked away from it. It appears something failed in one of 2 governors or internal in the prop. I know 2 other people have also had similar issues in one case it was taxiing on floats. You can check out my Moose and several others at Scott Aldrich's website www.goflyamoose.com Thanks again for the reply Steve Rhodes Anchorage, AK rhodes5@alaska.net ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:56:49 PM PST US From: "Steve Wieland" Subject: Yak-List: mechanic Yaksters, I have moved my Yak-52 from Pittsburgh to Charlotte. It says it purges the bottom three cylinders on the exhaust stroke - actually it is the bottom four ( #4,5,6 and 7). It seems that this combined with the manifold drain system modification would be fairly effective against hydraulic look. Another reason I would choose air over the electric start. Handles well and the brakes are getting better. Oil psi on the EIS says 99 still and the caution light stays on. Need to get a new 4.5 foot prop cable and reroute it I am just not happy with the setup. Also had to keep hitting the primer to keep it going - we had to do that on Ron's also for a while but it seemed to go away.
