Historic floats to be made in China
Seaplane floats that were first manufactured in the United States in 1925 by
Edo Aircraft and used to set speed and endurance records or contribute to
historic exploration are now made in China. The present Edo Floats division of
_Kenmore Air_ (http://www.kenmoreair.com/parts/EDOfloats/EDOfloats.html) of
Kenmore, Washington, near Seattle does its manufacturing at an existing
aircraft manufacturing plant in Nanchang, China. The original Edo Corporation
now
manufactures high-tech products for military and space applications.

I am thinking about putting an egt on my 285 HP CJ6. Any thoughts, i.e.,
single probe Vs multi probe. Does anyone make a 9 cyl egt setup? Also with a
single probe, where do you install the probe? My old engine did not seem to care
where the mixture lever was set. I could not feel much difference between
full rich or lean. The new (used) engine definitely is different. It will run
quite rough with an overly lean setting. Full lean will almost shut the engine
down at idle.

JPI makes the EDM-700/9c, I beleive is the proper model number but it
is a 9 cylinder EGT/CHT device and you can also get the Fuel Flow
option.

Tim,
I too, have a copy of General "Boots" Blesse with his personal endorsement
and signature.
Both Pappy and I got these at the Wings Over Miami Museum in Miami where he
is on the BOD and was honored at a special event at the museum. Check out
the museum's web site (also, home of my CJ), at www.wingsovermiami.com
<http://www.wingsovermiami.com/> for more information.
I doubt it, but we may still have a copy or two of No Guts No Glory (and his
Biography) for sale at the museum. You can call the museum at: 305.233.5197
and ask the Manager - Denny Moore if any copies available. They are
preparing for the approaching Hurricane but may answer the phones tomorrow
(after 10:00 A.M).
By the way, other than being a war hero, a double ace, a legend and his own
time and a true American patriot, he is also one of the most elegant and
gentle man you could ever meet - this will hold true with him for as long as
you are not flying in an aircraft intending to hurt America.
By the way, I assume the timing of your e-mail is the History Channel
broadcast of 'Fighter Pilot' this evening, where he was one of the aces
featured. A great program!

EDO buys Fiber Innovations - October 2005
By: Staff
Fiber Innovations Inc. (Walpole, Mass.) announced that it has been
acquired by the EDO Corporation (New York, N.Y.). While there has been a
change in ownership to EDO, the Fiber Innovations management team and
manufacturing facility are still in place, operating and continuing to
provide high quality products and services to customers. EDO shares
strong commitment to customer service and understands that mutual
success relies on the ability to provide high quality affordable

The new name of the company will be EDO Fiber Innovations. There will be
some changes in the clerical details of existing contracts and PIAs that
will be reflective of the new name, etc. However, the day-to-day
operations as they are today will remain the same. The new company will
provide the appropriate information quickly as we move through this
transition.
Fiber Innovations develops and manufactures complex composite structures
for aerospace, defense, and commercial customers. As a leader in the
specialty processes of braiding and resin infusion, Fiber Innovations
will add important complementary design and manufacturing capabilities
to EDO's integrated-composite-structures business.
EDO Corporation (NYSE:EDO), founded in 1925 and headquartered in New
York City, designs and manufactures a diverse range of products for the
defense industry and commercial markets, and provides related
engineering and professional services. EDO's advanced systems are at the
core of the transformation to lighter, faster, and smarter defense
capabilities.

Sam; Is the 9 cylinder EGT unit you have installed on a 285 HP or on the MP-14.
If on the 285 HP, can you give any insite as to what cylinder might run the
"leanest" so that it could be targeted on a single probe unit.
I have a single probe unit (on a 285 HP stock engine)and find that there will be
a drop in egt PRIOR to roughness of the engine....I have thought that it may
be likely that someone could easily run lean of peak if they lean based on engine
roughness. rb

Hi Roger,
I have an M14-P in my CJ, so I have no manual mixture control. If Im not
mistaken the stock EGT probes are connected to Cyls. #2 and # 4 (for front
and rear cockpit gages).
The JPI unit does much more than just leaning and finding peak EGT it
tells you whats going on in each cylinder (EGT & CHT) and when something
begins to go wrong, you really see it way early. Naturally, it will make
leaning your 285 a very easy task.
The fuel flow option is also really useful and will interface with any
modern GPS also very useful. Other nice add on are also available to this
unit, such as OAT etc. You may want to get on their web site
www.jpinstruments.com <http://www.jpinstruments.com/> .
FWIW,
Sam

Lean-of-peak operation used to be normal for radial engines, especially the
big transports.
Generally speaking, you won't find a mixture difference between cylinders as
the supercharger does an excellent job of mixing the fuel and air thus
delivering a uniform mixture to all cylinders.
Because the mixture is uniform you will have smooth operation LoP.
