It is both bad form and a security risk to the recipient's computer system to
allow receiving HTML in an email. Yes, I know that this is a fairly common
practice but that doesn't make it good practice.
The reason that this is not safe practice is that spammers use the technique
of embedding object links in SPAM email in order to get a response from your
computer to identify active an active email account. Hackers use this
technique to get your computer to download their virus or worm "payload"
automatically in the offhand case that your computer is not safely configured.
If the recipient's mail program is properly and SAFELY configured then links
to content, usually pictures and other objects, will not display. If you tell
people to automatically enable the display of HTML then you are telling them
to reduce the security level of their computer systems.
Sure, a virus program will catch the virus or worm but they will still leave
themselves open to receive more SPAM if they follow your advice.
If you wish to be a good network citizen, you will refrain from sending HTML
in your email messages and ONLY send plain text. Plain text has several
advantages too:
1. it is smallest and downloads the most quickly;
2. it cannot carry a hidden payload;
3. it is compatible with *all* computer and mail systems.

Well since you brought up banner towing, a friend was put out of business because
of the TFR's over SEC and NASCAR events in the name of national security. The
"Blimp" can fly over them but not a pilot who has undergone a background check
for a secret security clearance flying a Piper Cub towing a banner! Image
you know. Just another case of large coorperations grabbing federal airspace tor
their private use. Now city and state governments can seize your prize piece
of real estate for a large company to develope in the name of economic improvement
for the community! The concept of private freedoms whether flying or ownership
of private property is eroding away. Between judges making law and two
extremes of legislators, all with a personal aggenda (none of which are in your
personal interest), we are becoming a socialist state!
As we have to fight for our freedom abroad, we have to fight for that same freedom
at home! If we do not take a stand on the ADIZ's and the unnecessary TFR's
in the name of national security, we are going to loose more and more freedom!
Not one single person sitting in an outdoor arena has in the history of arial
advertising ever been injured by an aircraft flying overhead or anything falling
off of that aircraft. It is just large coorperations with the money to bribe
the legislators and judges in the name of "Lobbying".All "Lobbying" is, is
legalized bribery!
Does that mean we as members of RPA have form a PAC to take "donations" so we
can give money to the state and federal representatives to champion our interest!
Yes, it probably does! That is what we are up against!
AOPA has a PAC, Medical speciality societies have a PAC, the American Bar Association
has one of the richest PACs in the US, and I can keep listing PACs until
the cows come home. Bottomline is, one voice screaming the forest goes unheard!
Think about it, it is our freedom to fly where we want or when we need to that
is at stake here! But when we do not police our own and a drunk psycho in a C-152
tries to fly thru the White House only to make a dent in the wall of the West
Wing, you can't expect the presidential security to not want to force change!
As we all know with the jealousy in Washington, if the president gets that
kind of special treatment, then all the congressmen, senators, and the judges
certainly deserve it, because they are just as special too! In their own minds
that is!

Brian - don't scare people like this!!
We can spend days pointing out methods of letting the bad guys get to our
computers. Text emails can carry attachments with a dangerous payload.
By far the most common way malicious programs get onto local computer or
networks is by opening attachments - not hackers or spammers but normal
people opening things up they should not. It is far more dangerous browsing
the web when it comes to malicious attacks that receiving an HTML email for
the average home user.
Try and do the following just as a suggestion:
1) Always make sure you have the latest security patches and updates if
running on Windows.
2) By rule do not open attachments to emails even if they seem to be from a
known source.
3) Make sure you email program (Outlook, etc) does not load the links to
external sources by default - your HTML email them becomes just a text email
that is locally formatted. You can then decide if you want to load the nice
pics or not, just right click and say download pictures - easy.
4) Try Microsoft AntiSpyware - you can download it from the Microsoft
website for free.
5) Make sure you have some anti-virus software.
6) Software such as ZoneAlarm can help you identify programs installed on
you system that are trying to get to the outside world without you
permission.
If there is a need for us to post info on making you PC safe on the RPA
website lets hear from you and we can do so for those that feel they are not
up to speed with all this computer stuff.
Thanks,
Deon.

Subject: | Will work for flight(s) |
To All / Any,
I am just a simple girl from the East Coast who likes to go flying, and
will be in San Mateo at the end of November (Thanksgiving to December)
Does anyone know of a good place to fly from for a visiting enthusiast?
Or a good person to fly with?
I'm "mechanically inclined" & will work for flight(s)
The last time I was in CA, I got to fly in a T-34 !!!
Respectfully,

There is also a poppet valve in the piston itself which sticks.

Just a thought..
Has anyone considered using the air vent for the oil cooler? If one were to
tap into this from the cockpit, I would think that venturi action would tend
to suck fumes down and out. Fresh air in from the vent, and out the floor.

Subject: | HELL, JUST GIVE UP YOUR FLYING ! |
Doc
I came to this list because I'm interested in YAK and all things airplane.
I didn't come here for politics. But politics DOES affect us. I've often
said we need to address relevant political issues here.
One thing I've noticed, this trend in reducing our freedoms goes waaaayyy
beyond just flying.
Allot of people don't like politics....me included.
But we NEED to make people aware of the trends in reducing our
freedoms.....especially when it comes to flying.
You may think that any one law (like the DC ADIZ) has little affect on your
life. And you're probly right so you may not give a shit.
But, please, consider the sum total of the laws passed against your
exercising your freedoms!
People have got to wake up and make a stand!
Why? Because I want to keep flying unfettered and continue to enjoy the
majority of my other rights...........
I truly believe if the trend continues we will wake up one day and say
"WHERE HAVE ALL OUR FREEDOMS GONE"?
Well, the loss is happening so gradually that you don't really notice it.
That one law was no big deal at the time, right?
You, dear reader, need to recognize this freedom reducing trend and make a
stand! The loss is as real as you reading these words.
Maybe it would help to keep partisanship out of the discussion and just
focus on our interests?

PS... The DC ADIZ protects only the politicians in Washington... not the
majority of the American people who are still at threat because of the
politician's flawed, past decisions on allowing immigration from violent
middle east countries. By-the-way, immigration from these countries
continues to this day.

DREW, Redstars editor, YAKKERS.........
When it comes to sending Redstars newsletters by email...... there is
another way.
Create a webpage that mimics the email/newsletter you would have sent.
Then send a text email with a LINK to the webpage mirroring the email you
would have sent.
For example......
Dear Redstars or other interested parties, to read the Redstars latest
newsletter click on the following link.......
