I wish to contribute to the reduction of non RedStar aviation subjects here, except
to inform on association news/issues that require membership consideration
or action, but in this case I would like to make an exception;
Please welcome in to the world the RPA web manager, Deon "E+11"s, new 8 pound+
bouncing baby boy in to the world, born last night. His first by the way.
His wife April and son are doing A-Ok.
Thanks for all the selfless commitment Deon, and when you catch your breath,
go fly your Yak and take it all in.
Drew

Jeff;
I like that idea, the possibilities are there.
The only 3 gear up instances that I am personally aware of happened during taxi
after landing when the wrong handle was moved.
A little hard to explain, the handles, though they have no tactile warning, are
well seperated. I would not have expected a major problem here but we do have
one.
Would you give me some information on the pressure switch you are using for the
Hobbs? Manufacturer, web site, etc.
Many thanks
Walt

Problems unique to the CJ....
Conventional Squat switches won't work...as the gear struts are normally
fully extended.
No Flap light to tie in to...although a squat switch could be easily added
here.
A large part of the issue is the gear up on the ground issue....
IDEA: I have an air pressure activated switch to control my "air" hobbs.
The hobbs only runs when there is positive air pressure from the pitot tube.
What about using a similar switch, with TJs electrically operated air valve
to prevent gear ups on the ground. It would disable retracting the gear until
XX kts...

I think that if you check with your King dealer in your area that they have a pitot
static switch that they use the start the flight timer in the KR-87 ADF.
You have to get from a dealer or avionics shop as King (Honeywell) no longer
sells direct. You also might try eastern avionics as they have a web site.

Thanks Frank;
I'll keep that in mind.
First task is to identify and evaluate all possible negative aspects. A few questions
come to mind --
Effect of valve failure, loss of elec. power on gear down operation. Up side air
must exit for gear down.
Type of valve, press. range, default position, bypass for gear down flow? Ground
servicing operation, etc.
Cheers;
Walt
