If you don't mind taking a couple of seconds you can do it the old way.
(This is the way I did it with my CJ on long cross country flights where
I was pushing range to the limit.)
Since the calibration of the Chinese fuel gauge can be verified and
since it is both very accurate and has very good repeatability, you can
verify fuel burn rate in the air. You just keep a flight log of fuel
readings and time hacks. From that you calculate enroute burn rate using
your trusty E6B. (Yes, I used to carry an E6B in my CJ6A.) Sure it is
more work but it is both dirt cheap, i.e. free, as you probably already
have an E6B kicking around, and amazingly accurate.
By the time you reach half tanks you know how much longer you can fly
safely.
Also remember: this technique will show up a fuel leak as a
greater-than-expected fuel burn. A totalizer like the FS450 will not
unless the leak is downstream from the totalizer's fuel-flow sender.

The firearms laws in the US are a real minefield. Make sure you know the
laws for *each* *state*. To this end Packing.org is a great resource.
And if you are going to carry a firearm in your aircraft for survival
purposes you should probably go ahead and get your CCWs just to cover
your butt.
At last check the two CCWs you want are Utah and Florida. Their CCWs are
recognized by a total of 22 states. Also both FL and UT issue
non-resident permits and are shall-issue states. If you meet the
requirements, e.g. no criminal record, etc., they must issue you a permit.
Nevada is also a shall-issue state that issues to non-residents. The
only problem with NV is that they don't recognize FL or UT. (Go figure.)
OTOH, Nevada is an open-carry state, i.e. you may carry without a permit
as long as your weapon is not concealed, so you may not care if you have
a CCW there. Be aware that the police in Clark County (Las Vegas) can be
annoying if you are carrying. They know it is legal but they hassle you
anyway.
As a past owner of a California CCW, I can attest that CA is not nearly
as unfriendly as one might expect on first blush. The problem is that CA
is not a shall-issue state, i.e. whether or not you get issued a CCW is
at the discretion of the issuing authority, usually the county sheriff.
In my case I had no trouble justifying my need for a CCW in El Dorado
county (E of Sacramento to South Lake Tahoe along Hwy 50).
Even though it is issued by the local authority, it is a state-wide
permit and allows you to carry concealed anywhere in the state. (It will
be interesting to see what happens in San Francisco where they have
"outlawed" guns but you have a valid permit from the state. Who's law
trumps?) Funny thing, SF is one of the places in CA where I feel I
actually need to be armed.
Also be aware of the Firearm Owners Protection Act (FOPA) of 1986. It is
what protects you when you are transporting a firearm through an
unfriendly state. According to the FOPA, if you are in transit from a
place where your firearm is legal to a place where your firearm is
legal, you are exempt from the local laws while in transit. This means
that if you are flying from Virgina to New Hampshire and make a
precautionary landing in Massachusetts, MA can't sock you with a felony
for possessing a handgun. Prior to FOPA-'86 they could (and did).

Brian I will leave my info on your voicemail again - I can think of nothing better
than to meet in person as well, I have family about ten minutes from your
home town and was going to propose just this concept.

After lots of effort with a shop up in Illinois, we decided to do the check at
the left wing root, where the lines dump into condensation bottles. After trying
this, Joliet Avionics always used that location for their CJ checks. There
is a panel just inboard of the wing joint cover, under the leading edge.

Right now I am in Florida. I think that is where you live. I will be in
the Miami/Hollywood area for the next couple of days. I may be traveling
across the US to Sacramento this coming weekend if all goes as planned
(and when does anything ever go as planned).
And why is it OK to talk like this in the yak-list but not talk about RPA?

I use the very conservative approach of looking at the fuel gauge as being
calibrated in minutes... 90 liters = 90 minutes. Of course, it tends to
be better than that, but at any given glance you can say that you have at
least X minutes of fuel left without doing ANY math and the situation
tends to improve over time, which is good for those situations where
you've become concerned about the fuel.
The L-39 is in the same ballpark: 100 Kg of fuel = 10 minutes at
non-cruise throttle settings. In cruise it's *much* better than that,
more like 7 Kg per minute than 10. Ouch. ;-)

In the L-29 its 10 liters per minute, 600 literes 60 minutes. Funny
how that math works out.
Thats at cruise.....double ouch.

Vipers are way more agile and versatile! If you can strap it on a viper,
they will do it. Dark Greys kick a#$, don't care what you say about the
mud hens, they are great at TST, they are right along side the BONEs, just
with less fire power. They were great to control in those "Time Sensitive

Smash,
You're preaching to the choir. You strap a Viper on and climb in a Eagle
with all the room for A-4 bag behind you. Spuds will beg to differ. But when
they gave us the Fox 3, no more post holes and ropa-dopes! Nuf said. Sure
is nice to be small and agile with reach out an touch somebody capability.
At least we have the YAK/CJ's to fill the void.
Doc
Vipers forever but if it don't sound round...Why Listen. But I sure do love
the smell of JP-4 in the morning.
