Steve, Franc Smit (CJ6, CJ5, Yak 52) and his new wife just left my place (had a great 3 day visit with them), they will be here in the states for another two weeks. If Blitz cannot ship to you I could ship to Franc at his Ohio office and he could carry then back to Perth for you. Let me know if I can help. Mike is correct. In my 'zeal' I to make a point I over did it. The EAA's B-17 didn't make that ferry flight with a "broken back". They had spent a considerable time repairing it in CA before the flight. I stand corrected and certainly didn't mean to infer that. Jim "Pappy" Goolsby Hi guys, I'm starting my fourth year flying in EAA's B-17 program, and we all know the types of rumors that can get started in the warbird world by something taken out of context. Just a housekeeping item about EAA's B-17 gear incident: the airplane's back was not broken by the turret being pushed up on the landing. As I'm sure Jim knows, there is a post atop the ball turret structure that runs to the ceiling which did tear some roof skin out, but the overall fuselage structure was intact (I've seen firsthand the damage and the progress of the repairs in the Weeks hangar many times). These aircraft would often return from combat with a gear malfunction that caused this same type of damage on landing and it would often "break the back " of the airplane. I only write this because I am proud to fly with the guys in our program and work with our mechanics who really know how to do it right. None of these people, or our gracious and warbird-loving FAA program inspector, would consider flying or let fly that airplane without confirmed structural integrity. Jim is 100% right that there are some great FAA guys out there that love, live, and breathe these airplanes like the rest of us, and they do incredible things that I have seen many times offset the negative impact of some other FAA folks. So here's my idea for the new YAK t-shirt: a cossack riding a YAK 52 wielding a sword slaying the Nanchang dragon. Copy below picture YAk 52 dragon slayer. :) On Jan 12, 2006, at 9:52 PM, ByronMFox@aol.com wrote: > Gentlemen: > > The new Nanchang Dragon T-shirt is now in the on-line store. Check > it out. Troops, Well it's time to start planning for Sun & Fun. You snow bird can scrap the ice off your wings and come to God's country where the girls wear shorts all year to show off their sun tan legs. Land of the 'Blue hair', gators, moccasins, and Florida's state bug the Palmetto bug. Yep its time to warm up. Anyway, I need to get an idea of what the majority of you want. Last year a few (NOT all) said you wanted to be near the 'regular' WB guys hotel. That's down town Winter Heaven. To get from LAL airport to there after the airshow is a real hassle. All the restaurants very crowed each evening. Zephyrhills, although not near the WB guys and as "up town" does not have near the traffic nor attractions. Rooms will most likely be cheaper as will the restaurants. We found a number of very good eateries there and a very decent bar. The FBO will most likely have us parked out in the field again, but the same would be at LAL, GIF, or BOW. I have no idea what fuel will be at this point. It might be that we will be split up and only get together at the show. That may happen if I do not get a super majority one way or another. OFF list please, so as not to rub it in to the poor souls who shall freeze their tonuses off. (temp today was 68F with a bit of a breeze from the NW, CAVU). Jim (Pappy) Goolsby
