Michael,
I have definitely seen this problem. Unfortunately, it was caused by leaving the
airplane parked outside with the prop in other than the horizontal position
for months. Rain water will run into the hub. The hub was so bad we were unable
to remove the castellated nuts, even with a 3 foot leverage bar attached
to the handle of the spanner wrench and a 230 LB person pulling on it. Once disassembled
by a prop shop, serious corrosion was found and the hub was virtually
unusable and had to be scrapped.
Although I am clearly not an expert on car wash soaps, some soap may have entered
the hub and if the airplane was not flown immediately after washing, the soap
may have begun attacking the metal. Also, don't discount the history of the
hub prior to your ownership or even before that.
Dennis

Lades and Gents
A couple of weeks ago I put a note on the yak list regarding frozen prop blades
(unable to adjust pitch)
I can now advise you of the findings the prop has been striped and inspected
we found the sleeves that the blade
Screw into had frozen on the nylon bush just after the oil/grease seal.
It took a considerable amount of work to remove the castellated nuts and one
could not be removed with out totally stripping
Of the centre of the hub.
My question to the list has any one ever had this type of failure, do you all
leave your props parked on the horizontal so water can not enter the bushing
area. This CJ sits in a hanger it had been flown in rain once and only gets washed
using car wash
It has not had any other types on solvents near it.
Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated

Mike and others that might be interested,
I just installed blades in a prop hub that I had refurbished. The hub I
removed from the airplane (CJ6, 285 hp engine and prop), sold to me as
new and installed in 1997, now with 250+/- hours, had begun to be
sluggish in operation and was becoming discolored and I suspect corroded.
I found: 1. Grease that was black, hard as a brick, probably not
luberating anything and stuck fast to all interior surfaces.
2. NO SEALS installed for the blades. The hard grease in the
seal groves might have been acting as a seal.
3. Even with the prop removed and no oil pressure, I was unable
to cycle the blades by hand.
This prop was supposedly shipped from China this way. I recommend that
if you have a prop from China that has not had service here, you think
about cleaning it out and greasing properly.

Troops.
I just replaced my generator with an alternator. In doing so I needed to
remove the generator, regulator and wave filter.
The regulator is gone to a new home.
The 25 lbs Chinese generator has about 1,400 hours on it (that's how much
I've put on it) and is working perfectly. $250.00
The wave filter has the same amount of time, and it too is working. $50.00
Plus I have a set of polished wheel rims. $400.00

YAKKERS
Somebody recently said they were going to try and develop an electronic
ignition system for the M14.
Well, I gave that some thought and have come up with a circuit design that
will work.
What I need is a trashed mag that I can retrofit. Anyone got one laying
around the hangar?

Mike,
It's not that kind of filter. It's job (as I understand it) is to smooth
out the current from the generator. Its not a noise filter.

Yakkers
Somebody posted about having mags converted to electronic ignition.
Well, I gave that some thought and came up with an electronic ignition
system that will work for both CJ's and 52's.
What I need is a trashed mag from both airplanes.
Anyone willing to contribute one of each they might have laying around the
hangar?
Of course I'll make it worthwhile for them after development is complete.

Frank,
I have a mag that needs a coil. The overall workings of the mag is fine with exception
of a trashed coil.
Contact me off list if you still want it.
