Thank you as well for the wonderful hospitality that you and your family showed me during my stay with you. It's been a "journey" of nearly a year searching for the right aircraft and many of you Yakkers have already spent your personal time and effort making sure that I had the knowledge required to find a good CJ6/Yak. Thank you as well. Jeff's is definitely overkill far beyond just "good" and the documents that he has kept so fastidiously are "golden".The love, $$, and time that these guys have lavished on it is apparent. Needless to say, I am very, very happy with my new "significant other", 'Chang, and feel that he was well worth the price. Jeff and Kelli have visitation rights and a standing invitation to bring the family out to stay with me, fly 'Chang, harass Skip, and ski. Jeff will be giving me the initial check out and showing me just how to keep 621CJ happy and healthy the way he wants it done. Dennis Savarese will also come visit around May to instruct me on the proper care and maintenance of "Chang's M14P". Bottom line, I want to do this right and keep a beautiful machine in great shape. Jeff and I won't be flying it from Tennessee until late April, early May. I have a serious commitment to martial arts right now that requires too much time and energy to give 'Chang my full attention. So Jeff will be keeping and flying him for me until then. Thank You again Jeff, for trusting me with your baby. It's been an incredible journey from when we were both kids staring at the airplanes from behind that chain link fence at Van Nuys Airport to now hasn't it? We've almost come full circle. "Who would'a thunk?" (And it just keeps getting better.) Not having any real idea what the thing was worth, I put that number on it to get things going followed by OBO (which, Mr. Kent, means "or best offer"). I also said please contact me off list. I got a nice off list note from Doug Sapp that he had some for about $1250....so, obviously my price was high....but thanks to him, I now have a better idea of what my spinner is worth. The mention that I put on the list was certainly not an invitation for "Rob Kent" to get on list to push his business. So, I do have an 18T spinner and backplate "complete, undamaged....excellent condition"....and yes, Mr. Kent, it is used....but none-the-less "complete, undamaged....excellent condition" Will entertain offers. It's a BAD relay! OK, Here is the answer as to why my Yak would not fire the booster coil or the Air Solenoid. The IGNITION RELAY -TKE52- in the relay box at station 6 is BAD. The relay box is located behind the rear instrument panel. I disconnected the instrument air and power lines then removed the center instruments. If you have not notice when you undo the two thumb screws at the top of the instruments the panel will fold down and out. Down on the left and right hinges that the panel rotates on, you will find that each has a removable pin. This will allow you to pull the complete instrument package out of the way, with the exception of the heading compass. Just remove the three screws holding it in, and leave it there. The relay box is located in the upper right hand side. Has two cannon plugs on the bottom, one large and one small, and lots of Russian safety wire. Remove the two cannon plugs, then remove the four screws holding the box to the bulkhead. Take box out and cut safety wire. Once you have done all of this, getting to the relay inside is easy. After I sorted out what was what on the relay I reconnected the cannon plugs and powered up the airplane. Just as I expected my multi-meter show that 28 V power from the 10 Amp ignition breaker switch (the one down by the battery switch) was feeding into the relay and was ready and waiting to power the air solenoid and shower of sparks. . Next I checked that each starter button when pressed would send power to the relay and they worked fine. From the bench check I did I suspected that the starter button power was not making it through the relay and in turn was not pulling the relay closed. I checked the ground terminal to make sure that the wire had good continuity and of course it did. Only one thing left to due and that was jump the 28 V feed line to the air solenoid line. When I turned on the battery and flipped the ignition switch on the air solenoid made that lovely POP and sent air to spin the prop. After having pulled this box, I would not want to do this in the field. I will keep that extra booster coil with the pig tail handy. Once you got the tool, its a quick fix.
