Could any one recommend a powered tow bar good enough for my Yak 18T?
I bought one from WingWalker in SA which just does not work (I should
have known better, when the guy refused to provide me
with details of satisfied customers).
Thanks in advance
Chris

Hi Chris - how are you doing, your 18T still based out of Deauville?
Re: WingWalker - you have my sympathy, but not surprised a reference was elusive.
Had the same problem with WingWalker back in 2001 when I'd sought their assurance
that an AV20 model was adequate to handle a YAK-52 ... their web site still
says so today.
To cut a long story short it was certainly not "fit for purpose" - the only (limited
period) recompense offered required my paying the shipping costs back to
SA (which would not be recoverable, nor the original shipping to UK).
As I'd paid by credit card I'd hoped to have some consumer protection cover ...
but legislation good only within the EU, discretionary elsewhere ... you can
guess the outcome.
I'd like to say more but will bite my tongue ... let's just say Caveat Emptor!
Eventually sold it on (at a loss) via eBay to a guy with a (much) lighter aircraft
... hopefully it was better suited to his needs.
As per other responses I'd recommend going the PowerTow route ... although granted
it's not cheap to buy / ship to Europe.
I was fortunate to find a 5 year old used PowerTow (4hp) on sale here in the UK
... best thing we ever bought. Fires up first time, every time even after a further
4 years of use & abuse (700+ starts). Easy to get the (Tecumseh) engine
consumables (filters etc), even in the UK. I can thoroughly recommend this product.
Cheers, Rob

The link has photos of the Yak-50 models I ordered a few months ago. Overall, I
am impressed with the work. The props look a little off to me. They look like
they have too narrow of a chord and resemble a CJ-6 prop. Other than that, the
work is really nice.
The larger model has a 16 inch wingspan while the smaller one has a 12 inch span.
If youre interested in having one done, drop me a note. Be prepared to exercise
some patience as it took some time to get them.
The photos are at high res to show detail. This is the finished product as delivered.

The other photos of my daughter who was born Saturday nine weeks premature. She
is already making her father proud by being a strong. I nearly lost both my wife
and daughter through the ordeal. Both are now well.

Anyone have any decals with the attached YDB symbol? If not, would anyone be
interested in some if I had them made?

I recently purchased a CJ-6 and would like to know if anyone come up with
a parking brake other than velcro around the brake handle.
Thanks , Gary Hagstrom

Good question, Gary. I've wondered about this for some time, particularly
because the Yak 52 has a very simple latch that flips into place to hold the
brake lever. So much of the CJ is systemically Russian that I'm surprised the
Chinese didn't adopt the Russian brake latch.
Although somewhat awkward, the Velcro strap works and is cheap. Nevertheless,
I'd also like something more sophisticated. ...Blitz

Gary and all,
I am 90% complete with my parking brake mod. Mine is really a dual purpose
brake mod. The first use is as an emergency no nonsense "lock em up tight,
dynamite the brakes, all stop right NOW, smoke the tires, you'd better have
your harness on, braking system. The second is for use on the ramp as a
parking brake. If all goes well I'll have the proto type installed in the
CJ6 that I will have at Red Star this spring. The idea for my system was
born out of the shear panic of breaking a brake cable or brake handle when
navigating through aircraft (or people) at a airshow. The ramp parking
brake was just a "by-product" of the main goal which was to make a true
"panic button" type system. No cost yet, but I am sure that it will be
reasonable..........more so than running into a P51 I mean! ;o) As
Paul Harvey says "stand by for news"!
Always Yakin,
Doug Sapp

Probably because their little fingers are not strong enough to flip the lever down
when it jams!

Someone on the list mentioned, I believe yesterday, that there is a
YAK 52 stick complete with brake handle for sale on ebay. Could you
just change over the entire stick?

I saw him years ago tail slide a corporate jet. I cannot remember which one but
it was impressive. I have also seen the demo depicted on the film.

Having flown gliders in my prior life saved my rosey pink once. As he says,
it is all in energy management even when the fan ain't making thrusty's no
more!
You can even use thermals to increase your rate of climb essentially out
the wazoo.

A clip to hold the brake handle will do us no good if the cable snaps or the
brake handle fails, The new mod is totally independent of the cable or the
handle.

I was hoping that someone might notice brother Steve's new call sign,
"POTUS." As you're no doubt aware, this is the acronym employed by the Secret
Service to refer to the President. It is, however, not for me to explain its
genesis with respect to my brother. That I'll leave to him at perhaps another time.

I'd be interested to purchase some decals if you have them made.
Actually - I'd be interested in anything Yak related (T-shirts, shoulder
patches, etc).
