Attempts to clear the problems by cycling the canopy failed. The final cycling of the canopy resulted in it being in the down and locked position. The canopy would not cycle up form this position trapping the pilot in the cockpit. The aircraft subsequently ground aborted. * Attempts to manually open the canopy were unsuccessful * 27th AMU consulted Lockheed Martin and the F-22A System Program Office to determine alternate methods to open the canopy and extract the pilot * After all maintenance options were exhausted, the canopy was cut by fire department personnel and the pilot was extracted at approximately 1315 * Trouble-shooting of the aircraft is in work * Canopy replacement cost is $182,205 ________________________________ From: owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Buzzard Aviation Sent: Monday, April 24, 2006 2:46 AM To: yak-list@matronics.com Subject: Re: Yak-List: Raptors Rule- although the canopy costs $182,205 =09 =09 At 03:50 24/04/2006, Roger Kemp wrote: =09 =09 --> Yak-List message posted by: "Roger Kemp" =09 Martin, The canopy could not be opened. Several times. Then it wouldn't open and they cut the pilot out after 5 hours of messing with it. The price is from the Air Force story. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Buzzard Aviation" Sent: Sunday, April 23, 2006 9:06 AM Subject: Re: Yak-List: Raptors Rule- although the canopy costs $182,205 > --> Yak-List message posted by: Buzzard Aviation > > > >>Okay, I wasn't paying attention. Sarah I am really sorry about your plane. I watched the live video as the tornado crossed your airport from Tulsa. It was amazing that anything was left standing. it was really creepy when they revised the report and said it was not farm buildings but hangars being destroyed. I knew that some valuable planes were destroyed. Come to Tulsa and you can play with us. Well, most of you probably saw the tornado that ravished El Reno, OK tonight. The pretty red white and blue a/c you see from the video being thrust out of his hangar. Well, it's awful, it will undoubtably be a total loss. Here are some pics, hope they come through. Canopy broken, left wing ripped open, rudder and elevator damage, prop destroyed, and tail wheel ripped off...UGH smash ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 07:13:01 PM PST US From: Sarah Tobin Subject: Yak-List: El Reno Hangar damage pictures > The 414 was in the hangar to the west of me, you can see thru the pic to > what is left of my hangar. Well, if you look at the link that one of the boys sent, you will see me talking about Claremore competition....so I *was* planning on coming up there. I still might. One of my buddies offered me to fly in his Extra 300L, so it's still possible that I can make it. Will you be competing in it? Jim Griffin wrote: Sarah I am really sorry about your plane.
