Steve,
Same problem with the TD as with my other Yak, water in the ignition wire
housing. The rubber sleeves that go to the front plugs will trap water even
after you take apart the lower section of the plug caps and drain the
wires. After taking the harness apart and draining it about four times, I
got tired of fooling with them and put new wires and plugs on the plane on
Tuesday after SNF - took about six hours literally - "in the field". Runs
great now! I'll let you know about the fix on the other plane when it
happens.
By the way, I think the moisture is more of a problem on the older ignition
wires, even the wire insulation was moist after I pulled it out of the
harness. I have'nt seen this problem on the wires Robert has been getting
from Jill - he had replaced his lower wires - pulled them back through the
original harness. We flew through the same rain at the same time and he
did'nt have a problem.

Thank you, everyone, for the suggestions and solutions for the V530 spanner
wrench. I made/modified an available wrench per several of your suggestions
and it works great. The original problem was that one of the blades was frozen.
I had to eventually remove the hub and disassemble on the bench to get
everything unfrozen.
This problem is due to insufficient propeller maintenance in the past and
heavy rains this winter. Unfortunately, I have to store my Yak outside. The
water damage inside the hub is minimal. The only real problem is with one of the
retainer nuts. Very little rush, but the phenolic bushing appears to have
swollen and is interfering with the blade. This prevents blade pitch motion.
I
have cleaned everything and removed crust from old grease and rubbing
phenolic, but the fit is still too tight for normal / easy blade motion.
How is this repaired? Do I replace the phenolic bushing and V-seal within
the retainer nut, or replace the whole retainer nut assembly? Is this a hub
overhaul case? My propeller blades are still in reasonable shape, so I don't
need a complete overhaul. I have been careful about marking the alignments
during disassembly and am sure I can reassemble, but I am starting to think a
balancing will be required if I replace many parts. Would appreciate any insights.
My original mechanic in the San Francisco Area has moved. Does anyone have a
suggestion for another mechanic in this area?
