Simple check on run up at 65% and full power manifold pressure should be above ambient or in hi the 80"s. Another simple thing that makes it run like crap did you center the fuel primer? if not it just dumps fuel to the engine. Heavy smoke or a light smoke trail? What do the spark plugs look like? Carboned up or oily/wet. Black smoke is generally due to the engine carberator being set to rich for one. Blue smoke is another issue entirely. Could be a broken ring, warped valve guide, burnt piston, or the mixture to rich to name a few things. I would not fly it again until it has been looked at little closer. Do you have the capability to burn an oil sample? Are you making large enough chunks of metal to set off the chip detector? Those are a few things to worry about. After take-off ATC called me that I did had a thick trail of smoke behind me, which did hung there for a while. I did check my engine during flight with several power settings and I did notice that, when full power applied the engine was running like my grandma's rocking chair.. When power a bit reduced everything was running fine, but not the power I'm used to. The cylinders are OK for sure. My mechanic told me that the cause might be the carburetor. Does anybody have other suggestions? Could someone send the Bei Yei layout as well as other Chinese markings for the CJ? I need to get decals made up for the forthcoming paint job. Perhaps I'll have to look on my old computer with the older version of Word, and to think my original marking drawings were once laid out in Harvard. IT technology certainly changes fast. Anyone need a UNIX/SunOS admin guy? I didn't think so. How about SQL and Informix/Sybase DBA? Punch cards, and slide rules anyone? Craig Payne Hope the attached helps! I'd like to have a complete R/T, and a R/T Rack Mount, and a Control Head. I am not sure of the exact make and models, but I am hoping that most YAK-52 radios are the same. If anyone has any of these parts left over after converting to say... a Western Radio design... please let me know as I would be interested in working out a deal to purchase your left overs. Looking to set up a repair bench so that I can attempt to fix these radios as necessary. If you have radio "piece parts" on ANY of the Russian Radios... I'd be interested in those too! There are far too many bad screws, sloppy couplings and other potentially unsafe practices that have historically plagued our aircraft. Better safe than sorry.
