So, this weekend I finally got to practice for the summer season. I fitted a camera in the fin of the SP and recorded a run through this years sportsman's. On the link below you will see two runs one is my coach the other is me. It is obvious which is which :((( http://notasukhoi.com/photodata/site-images/mov.jpg <http://notasukhoi.com/photodata/site-images/mov.jpg> These are the same aircraft and each flight was done 30 minutes apart from each other. The amazing thing is that up until the spin it is as if we were in formation, freaky. So, thought you might like it. BTW are there any new contestants in the group this year, speak up you will get a lot of encouragement here. Enjoy Gus

I use Adobe Premiere 2.0 to edit the video this took all of 15 minutes from it being in the camcorder to it being on the web. Subject: Need a perfect bearing line photo of your warbird!
Folks, We need your help, I'm collecting training photos of your Yak 52s and CJs (looking for both a Yak 52 and a CJ as the reference aircraft), what I am looking for is a perfect wingman pilots perspective shot on lead showing perrrfect position with: In fingertip, we need a shot with a CJ and a few others with a Yak as lead/reference aircraft to reflect accurate sightlines: Angle -trailing edge of the aileron and forward canopy bow (one with a CJ, one with a Yak as ref aircraft). Elevation -fuel blister just visible on CJ - what do you use for a yak - we need that description with your shot! Lateral seperation - 3rd sightline some of you may have that sets your position down the bearing line and sets your wingtip spread on like aircraft, Deer Valley (CJ) uses forward corner of the horizontal tail with a buldge on the CJ emp below the tail fin - Yak 52 on Yak 52, if you use something, we need it... Close trail in a yak 52: Whether its following a CJ or Yak 52, as long as it was shot from a Yak 52 with one ship length spacing, we need it, please send! Please send to me off list, if you are flying around this weekend and want to help and have a backseater that can place the aircraft exactly where it's needed, please take a few digitals - thanks for your help, we've created over 20 pieces of new formation instructional artowork with Yak 52 planforms in equal number with CJs reflecting the near equal numbers of our membership, we now need your help with some photos... Sincerely, Drew RPA 305-803-9158 ---------------------------------

Has anybody proposed an on-line RPA formation FPR? I'm doing over 100 formation flights a year now and THAT would be a convenient way to track all that... would take a lot of workload off Mike, too. if anybody else thinks that's a good idea, I would be happy to write the spec. and HTML for the various forms, etc. Somebody would have to do the back-end work, tho'... --> Yak-List message posted by: "Scooter" <yakk52@verizon.net> I've been working on some Yak video. I'm shooting with a small digital camera that does pretty good video although its really meant to be a still camera. Shake is a big problem but i've got a freeby video processing program that removes a lot of it. I edit using Windows MovieMaker which comes free with XP. It works surprisingly well but is lacking in a few areas. There are two 2 minute videos at: http://www.rostovs.com/movie/ The camera is a Minolta Dimage Z1 with a cheapo 180 degree fisheye attached. From: "Scooter" <yakk52@verizon.net>
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Scooter" <yakk52@verizon.net> I think this might have come up before on this list. Went out to the hangar today and smelled fuel before i opened it. Turns out i had a puddle of fuel on the ground under the center "vent". It had come from the left tank and when i opened the cap i could hear the pressure release (vacuum inside). Seems like I lost possibly a gallon or two. Any ideas? The tanks were almost topped off when i put it away last week. --> Yak-List message posted by: "Roger Kemp" <viperdoc@mindspring.com> Scooter, Sounds like a case of vaporizaion and venting. If you are going to top off your tanks and then put it up in a warm hanger, the YAK is notorious for venting fuel. Two choices, uncap you tanks to break the seal. Obviously leave the fuel caps on the mouth of the tank but loose where it will vent. Another way to remind yourself the you fuel caps are loose is to take the cover off the wing and turn it 90 degrees out. The other choice you have is to not top off your tanks when you put it up. That is assuming you have the standard Russian fuel tanks with the tank covers (? for lack of anything else to call them?).
