Folks,
If your an RPA member, log on under Governance - "Elections"
There is a link that opens a ballot online in seconds for the 3 National Board
of Director seats - lots of guys you know are running for these seats - Calloway,
Fox, Dycus, Goolsby, Hancock, Harwick, Campbell, Mortara, etc....
Let's insure a good showing among membership.
+++++++++++++++++++
Also, the RPA is working on a DVD-based Basic Formation ground school that would
accompany the hard copy manual. This will provide better opportunities for
access to the ground school and help out with time management at our fly-ins
(i.e. more flying time). Let me assure the folks that equal exposure to the
Yak series of aircraft as well as CJ is going in to this from art, pictures and
video. In flight video was shot in Hi Def at All Red Star and I would like
to thank all those who participated (Yak 52 & Su-29s from Southern Calif, CJ-6
and T-34s from Deer Valley and Phx)
Thats it, fly safe,
Drew

Subject: | OV module for CJ6A generator |
--> Yak-List message posted by: Brian Lloyd <brian-yak@lloyd.com>
Blitz was going to be the guinea pig for the new OV protection module
for the CJ6A generator system. Unfortunately his schedule hasn't
worked out to install it in his airplane so I am looking for someone
else who is willing to install this in their airplane.
The module is really quite simple in that it operates a relay to
disconnect the generator's field and taking the generator off-line
should the module detect an over-voltage situation, i.e. bus voltage
in excess of 32V for more than 100 ms. (The 1/10 second delay is to
keep transients from accidentally triggering an OV event.)
Installation is quite simple. There is a module, a relay, an
indicator lamp, and a test/reset switch. The only modification that
needs to be made to the aircraft wiring is to cut the field lead
somewhere and connect the cut ends to two of the relay terminals. If
this is done with knife-splices then the module may be removed and
the generator system returned to stock configuration in only a few
minutes. There are only a couple of other connections to the
electrical system, power and ground, so the installation is really
quite non-invasive.
The production kit is probably going to go for $150 or more so here
is your chance to get one for free. If you are willing to come to the
Sacramento area with your aircraft I will install it for you. If not,
I will be happy to send you the module and then do my best to hold
your hand through the process over the phone.
I would like to do this within the next three weeks as I will be
leaving for an extended trip starting June 8. (I am heading for the
USVI for my son's HS graduation and then wandering about the US on
holiday until OSH, after which I will be returning to the People's
Republic of California.)
Please reply to me directly as I do not subscribe to the yak-list.

Tell me about it..... in his mind though, he's just, and I quote, "the
world's oldest second leutenant". Out there having a ball and keeping
things simple and "wired". I highly recommend that you go to that clip.
He talks about how he does what he does as you watch him doing it. ( I
want to be just like him when I grow up.)

Gus....THAT WAS FANTASTIC! Thank you. Now perhaps some of my non-flying
friends will understand my "sickness". - V

Subject: | V530 Propeller Installation |
When installing the V530 hub onto the engine what torque values should I use?
When installing the blades onto the hub, what torque value on the large
retainer nuts should I shoot for?
The retainer nuts, when I took them off, were very, very tight and the blade
roller bearings were not turning as freely as I would expect. I very much
doubt I will reassemble the retainer nuts to the previous marks because they
appeared to be too tight (probably back off 1/8" to 3/16" from the previous mark).
This means my locking plates for the retainer nuts will not work. Do I just
modify or remake my locking plates? What has been your experience? Thanks
for the input in advance.
Great weather out west! Need to get back in the sky!

Well the 2006 West Coast All-Red Star came and went.
Porterville was a fantastic location and the city treated us like kings.
The staff of ARS did a fantastic job. Drew has a new friend at "The Mint"
(not).
The Barkmasters were barking... the big pistons were pumping.
Craig... where were ya? Keep working on that CJ and perhaps you'll make it
in time for 2007~!
I recommend LOTS of MMO.
;)
