Yes the M14 will ICE, but probably not if you live in a hot climate!! :-)
Yak 55 iced on approach and undershot turning upside down in UK, that was
the worst case I believe..
I've had icing on approach many times, it does not take long at all.
Throttle freezes shut. I'm my cases it was mechanical overcome. Warming up
on the ground is another gotcha, engine stops and you wonder why as you can
start it again immediately!
So, if your anywhere near +3-5'c and humidity you will 100% get ice in my 16
yrs experience on the M14 and 200,000 miles flight experience.
So, fit the carb heat ears or risk the consequences...You find many a/c have
had them removed for cracking. Y50 & 55 were contest a/c so being flown in
the summer did not get them fitted.
Br, mark

Warming engine up for compression checks, Saturday, mid-50's, 100% humidity, light
rain, advanced throttle to pull into hangar....sudden silence. NEVER HAS THAT
HAPPENED BEFORE. Mechanic thought the engine swallowed something. "Great!!!"
followed by "SHIT!" Called a friend for some advice, first thing out of his
mouth was carb ice. (he had it before as well). Ok, I will buy that. 30 minutes
later and it started right up!

Subject: | 4 Hangars available to purchase in California |
--> Yak-List message posted by: Frank Haertlein <yak52driver@earthlink.net>
Yakkers;
A one time deal for anyone interested.......... 4 Hangars are currently available
at California City Airport. I'm currently occupying one of them and am looking
for a partner to purchase the lease (70K). The 4 hangars (40' X 30' each)
come with 7 acres of land which is open for any improvements (i.e. building more
hangars to rent). Lease terms with airport are $487/mo for 7 acres of land
with the existing 4 hangars included. Lease ownership provides a 30 year lease
with 5 year option. All hangars currently occupied and generating income. Transfer
of lease requires negotiation of new lease terms with an accommodating airport
management. Property has electrical service and water.
Call if interested......
