Robert, it has been reported that the Yak-18T gains performance from this engine
by allowing a higher altitude cruise, should work for the -52, just add O2 .
OTOH, the -TD conversion, a tailwind and a downhill glideslope are the only
other known ways to speed up a Yak-52. Perhaps a gaggle of Geese hitched to each

To follow on from Jerry Painters posting about M14R, and to
clarify:
We have the somewhat Russian position of having two
higher-powered engines being made in the same city in Russia, but with
rather different designs.
The M14R is carburetted and gives 450-hp.
The US Airflow system works well on the M14P family of
engines but does need careful setting up to operate efficiently. Also there
are complications in terms of needing a higher-powered fuel pump; an
electrical fuel pump for starting and for emergency use, as well as some
aircraft changes.
We have run one M14PF (400-hp), and also an M14R with
Airflow fuel injection, and giving very good results. We would estimate at
least 480-hp with the M14R, and quite astounding rate of climb in an Su-26.
The M9F delivers 435-hp in carburetted form. The fuel
injection version is not in production, but is giving 450-hp, and probably
more before production standard is established.
If anyone wants more information on these engines do contact
us.

Jim,
I would like to disagreee, the F-4 proved with enough power even a brick can
fly!
With a rocket you would gain a large cruise advantage, for a short time.
About a month after completing AF Flight Engineer School for C-130, I got a
ride on the Blue Angeles C-130 (Fat Albert). I was on the flight deck when they
lit off their JATO bottles. The C-130 gained the most perf I had seen in a C-130
yet, and then went on to do things I did not beleive the 130 could do.
I am glad that I had that opertunity to fly a C-130 that way before deploying
to Qutar to fly combat missions. When we made our first landing at bagdad international
airport, it was like I was back on Fat Albert, only this time I was the Engineer
responsiable for the aircraft.

Subject: | M-14P Generator Brushes |
--> Yak-List message posted by: "Mike Bell" <yakflyr@comcast.net>
The generator brushes on my Yak-52 are almost worn enough to replace. The M-14
manual says to not replace them without removing the generator. It looks like
there's barely enough room to get in there without removing the generator. Anybody
have experience with this?
Also, is there any particular break-in required after brush replacement?
Thanks,
Mike

I can tell you that pulling the generator out is a piece of cake. Do not unbolt
it from the adapter plate (6 nuts) ... remove the generator and the adapter
plate as one piece. (4 nuts) Will take you about 30 minutes or LESS. As far
as break-in goes, as long as you can spin the generator shaft and the brushes
remain in one piece.. you're good to go. "Break-In" (per se) happens in the first
few seconds after engine start.

Mike,
After you replace the brushes could you please ship me one of the old
brushes so I can compare it to my stock of 285 hp HS6A generator brushes?
Maybe enclose it with your hoses when you send them to me. Sorry but I
cannot shed any light on the installation as I have never done one myself.
Many thanks.
Always Yakin,
Doug Sapp

Subject: | Trio in 52TW - Autopilot is installed |
--> Yak-List message posted by: "David McGirt" <david@mcgirt.net>
Well,
With A LOT of help from Tim Williams, the Trio Autopilot is installed. He
made a custom bracket to mount the servo to, and a custom bracket, to mount
to the control arm.. other than that, it was plug in play.. :)
The unit is in, and works great.. I put a toggle switch to switch the
sources from the Garmin 396 to the in panel Garmin 250XL, that will give
some flexibility.. but so far, very happy with the unit.
I also installed the Dynon remote compass in the tail, to go with the D10A.
I will run the calibration on that when I get a chance and a compass rose on
the ground, but it looks like it will be much better already..
Here are some pics..
