The NTSB reports that a CJ 6A had an engine failure near the
Brewster airport in Washington on 07/02/06. The pilot reported no
injuries however the aircraft wasn't so lucky.
I was hoping someone would know which engine was in the plane and
what caused the failure.

Pappy,
Does this mean we will not have the usual formation practices out of MTW
this year?

Troops,
First.
We are all invited to a party over at Bossler's hangar ( on the north side
of the field ) on Tuesday the 25th at OSH. It is supposed to start at about
1930 hours until - who knows. I need an proximately head count. I plan on
being there.
Second.
The RPA's newsletter - now magazine - went to the printers and should be
mailed Friday. All of us are looking forward to your comments. That great
Canadian publisher and skin head, Dan (AKA fougapilot) has worked quite hard
on the layout. You can throw all your tomatoes and other unused salads at
him. He is part French after all. The rest of us staff provide all the
good parts.
Third.
Received the OSH Monday (24th) show arrival plan. Very much like last year.
We will need to rendezvous at MTW in the early morning, to brief the plan
and formation. We will sortie from MTW, fly the arrival and land. After
the show, those of us who are flying to MTW for Roger's memorial dinner,
will launch for the return trip. Since OSH closes for the night at 2000 (?)
those with airplanes must plan to stay the night ( me for one ) and sortie
back to OSH in the morning. If you plan to go by car plan a good 1 1/2 hour
drive, one way.
I understand that MTW's main runway maybe OS for paving. Be advised.
MY personal plans call for leaving Peoria (SPI), IL airshow on Sunday (23
rd) morning and going to MTW. Sortie out of MTW for the show. Leave MTW
morning of the 25th and stay in OSH the rest of the week. Would be happy to
have the company.
I believe we're in for another good year of friendships and flying. What
the gas prices do to this is something to watch. BTW the EAAWB has said
that high/low altitudes will be rotated amongst the WB groups. IOW we may
get the low altitudes where WE BETTER LOOK REAL SHARP.

Jay,
I guess not really. The main runway at MTW is suppose to be closed due
resurfacing. Also about have half of the guys want to stay at OSH. This
effectively split up the guys for practice anyway. For them to "commute" over
from
OSH for practice, will I believe I wouldn't able to get them to come and have
something of a revolt if I than wouldn't let them fly in the show. More and
more of the guys seem to want to stay at OSH. Also Herb is the guy in
charge for the region and thus OSH.
I understand that some acro pros will be showing up at MTW though. Looking
forward for that.

I am a little disturbed to find out that a lot of the RPA folks are
staying in OSH with out notifing the rest of us. Maybe. I missed some
cmmunication about this, if so forgive me for quistioning the reasoning
behind this. If the majority wanted to stay in OSH fine, But there
should have some notification months ago. It is now to late to get
rooms, this had to be done months ago. I have made plans for MTW for a
full week and now find only about half are going to stay there. What
about the logistics of practicing for the show from two places? I think
a little more thought and communicitation should have been given to
this. Thanks, Forrest

Forrest,
Not all the guys are staging out of OSH. I'm not up on who is staying
where. Because of a number of meetings and such, I am having to stay at OSH part
of the time. I know that a number of the RPA guys (6 that I knows of) are
staying in OSH because they're sharing an RV or house near by. I believe Herb
mentioned that some 25 airplanes have signed up. That a goodly number
particularly IF we can get all of them airborne for the show.
It is OK to stay over at MTW and commute each day to OSH for the briefing
and show. A number of guys will (I do not know how many) will stay at MTW.
Doing a lot of large formation work out of MTW may be a little difficult due to
resurfacing (I've been told) of the main runway. They will be down to a one
runway operation.
The plan right now for Monday show where all the warbirds make a
simultaneous arrival into OSH and simply land - is for RPA to stage out of MTW.
Fly the
show arrival and land at OSH. We will than fly back to MTW after the show
ends (or MAYBE get airboss to let us out early) and watch Jurgis Kairys do
his demonstration. Than its Roger's Memorial dinner that evening there. I
WILL NOT MISS THAT.
I erg all those who knew or flew with Roger to attended his memorial benefit
dinner. It is for a educational fund in Roger's memory and very worthy of
our support. Let Ashley know you're coming at ( _pilotashley@gmail.com_
(mailto:pilotashley@gmail.com) ). It's $100/ person at a first class place with
a guest speaker who you will instantly recognize. He is amazing.
The next day Tuesday we (me included) will fly to OSH for the briefing and
fly the show. That evening (1930) we are invited (need a head count soon) to
Baslers for a party. Those that need to get back to hotels in MTW need to
leave before OSH closes for the evening (2000?).
Me? I'm staying at OSH that night for :
1. I want to get drunk.
2. I have a personal meeting the next morning early.
Since there no show to fly the next day Wednesday (I've been told) I may
take in the exhibits or fly over to MTW, but I need to be back in OSH that
evening.
So I can't tell you where everyone is staying. Just that not everyone wants
to stay at MTW.
Leading pilots is not unlike trying heard cats but more like trying to load
wild rabbits on a flat bed truck.

Troops,
This is the plan for the big Monday WB show arrival. This is the sortie and
formation plan. All this can change.
We will depart MTW so as to arrive at the holding point south of the 045
degree radial of OSH about 8 nm out. I want to arrive there about :10 before
we
are expected over show center. This will dictate our takeoff, taxi, engine
start and briefing times. I will try to get an expected time in the next few
days.
We are expected by airboss to fly over head show center at a TOT, than tag
on to the end of the SNJ/T-6 group who will be arriving from the south
directly into a 360 over head. We are expected to latch on to their last flight
and
do like wise.
The plan formation is simple and allows maximum maneuverability of flights.
It will be called the "Bomber Spread". It is to simulate a WW2 bomber
formation as we over head the show center. "We shall blacken the skies with our
presents".
Flights will be in 3's and arranged in a "V".
Because of the runway width at MTW we will take off in elements of 2 than 1.
On route we will fly in "V in trail" for maneuverability.
On the run-in to show center the formation will go to "Bomber Spread"
The second flight will move out to the lead flight's (L or R) while the
third flight moves to the opposite side.
They will take up the normal bearing line but will double the space between.
The third flight will dress off the second flight.
The forth flight will stay in trail with lead but will move up to dress off
the second and third flights.
Following flights will do the same in order.
Once pass the show center, at the call for flights into trail, we will
commence a turn so the flights can use turn radius to fall into trail position.
After locking on to 'tail end Charlie' of the T-6/SNJ guys, we'll go to
echelons for the pitch and landings. Right now that is planned for runway 36.
There are back up plans to use the 9/27 runway.
Now lets see if this all works! :)
