CJ is still in the shop but I'm the one doing the work. My Po' Boy Paint Deal was that I did all the stripping, disassembly/reassembly and supplied the spray mask. After spending a few days in the shop, actually 3 separate shops in the old Piper production facility, I can see that airplanes only spend a few hours in the booth at a time, all else is prep and masking, detailing after, etc. Lucky for me I'm a local with time on my hands so they can work my airplane in to gaps in their schedule. No one wants to do it or have you do it near by. The EPAer types scream at you! Your wife gets short tempered cause you're tracking that smell and gunky removed paint into her house. Old ladies at the local WalMark, look at you as if you some kind of smelly bum. And you've most likely ruined some good pants and shirts, which sets off the wife again, resulting in her getting an excuse to go shopping. But than again if that new paint comes off in that first year - well you know it YOUR fault! ;) But its just money. Pappy Thanks to all for the comments on airplane wax, I am taking notes. Or are we just assuming that its lack of hydro? Tanks have still failed after a hydro. -------- Dont own a Yak unless you can afford to be married to a maintenance schedule! There has been much discussion here in the past about where to get hydrotesting and the lack of shops familiar with our tanks. That is no longer a problem. -------- Mike Bell Yak 52 Elk Grove, CA yakflyr@comcastdotnet Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=62853#62853 ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 02:56:02 PM PST US From: "Roger Kemp" Subject: RE: Yak-List: Re: Oxygen Tank Explosion, Hydrotesting --> Yak-List message posted by: "Roger Kemp" As I understood, it was over pressurized by using the wrong scale to the tune of 1800 psi, if I heard correctly. Strictly rumor and inuindo at this point. It was filling it to the wrong pressure that did the tank and the ass end of the Mustang in. Luckly, no bystanders.
